Ambre
's Letter
Dear Future Host Family,
First of all, I hope you are doing well, and I am honored that you have taken the time to read my letter.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Ambre, I am French and I am currently in high school. My parents have been separated since I was six years old, but they live in the same city, which allows me to spend time with both of them on a regular basis. My life revolves around school and the activities I enjoy in my free time.
My high school is quite different from most traditional schools in France. Classes run from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, students can choose from a wide variety of activities, including sports (Parkour, soccer, skateboarding, etc.), arts (painting, architecture, theater, etc.), and languages (Korean, Arabic, Portuguese, etc.). I chose this school because it offers many more opportunities to study art, something I really missed in traditional schools. It also gives me the chance to experience a school system that is somewhat similar to the American one.
Outside of school, I have been taking guitar lessons every Wednesday for the past five years. On Saturdays, I practice Parkour, and I have always enjoyed drawing and creating art with my father, who is an art teacher, as well as with my mother, who is a psychologist. I also enjoy board sports whenever I have the opportunity.
I like playing video games with my 18-year-old brother, Nathan.
My stepfather's name is Benjamin, and he works with children with disabilities. Partly thanks to him, I have developed a broad general knowledge and enjoy learning about many different topics.
I love cuddling and playing with my cat, Glamour.
I also enjoy spending time with my friends, both at school and outside of school. We like going to the movie theater, shopping, or eating at fast-foods together.
My family and I travel regularly, and I am always fascinated by the cultures and landscapes I discover. I have visited Portugal, Spain, Rome, London, Kosovo, Albania, Egypt, Amsterdam, and my favorite destination of all: New York City ! The energy of the city that "never sleeps" made me dream of a city life worthy of a movie !
This trip to the United States confirmed my desire to live there and apply for an exchange program. I would love to experience American life from the inside by discovering your culture, your traditions, and your way of life.
I am also excited to try activities that are typically American, such as baseball, cheerleading, American football, or volunteering in the community.
Of course, one of my biggest goals is to become fluent in English. I believe it is an essential skill for life, especially for the career I hope to pursue in the arts. As you may have guessed, my greatest passion is art, especially visual arts. I hope to make it my career, even though I do not yet know exactly what profession I would like to pursue. Whether I collaborate with international artists or exhibit my work abroad, speaking English fluently will be a real advantage.
I have also learned that American high schools usually offer a wide variety of art courses. That is one of the reasons why I would be so happy to attend one. It would give me the opportunity to discover artistic disciplines that I would probably never have had the chance to try in France, such as Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, or Drawing & Painting. These experiences may even help me discover the career that is right for me.
I would be delighted to share my interests with you and to learn about yours as well !
I hope this letter has helped you get to know me a little better, and I sincerely hope I will have the opportunity to become a member of your family and make this dream come true.
I wish you and your family all the best, and I hope to meet you soon !
Warm regards,
Ambre
