's Letter

Dear Host Family, Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter and for considering welcoming me into your home. I am really excited about the possibility of spending a year with you, getting to know your family, and becoming part of your everyday life. My name is Greta, and I am from Germany. I would describe myself as friendly, funny, reliable, helpful, and open-minded. I love trying new things, making new experiences, and spending time with other people. When I meet new people, I can sometimes be a little shy at first, but once I get to know someone, I usually open up quickly. I especially enjoy making people laugh and doing things together. In my free time, I enjoy reading, swimming, being outdoors, and spending time with my family and friends. Twice a week, I go to the gym with a friend. Recently, baking has also become one of my hobbies. I first started baking with friends, but now I also enjoy trying new recipes on my own. For my mom’s birthday, I made blueberry muffins, and they turned out really well! I would love to bake with my host family and share some German recipes with you. At home, I live with my parents and our dog, and my grandmother lives in the apartment above us. My mom works as a dental assistant, and my dad works as a forklift driver for a beverage company. We are a close and friendly family, and our family life is generally relaxed and supportive. I also help with things around the house, such as keeping my room tidy, unloading the dishwasher, taking out the trash, and helping in the garden.I have travelled with my family to Austria, Italy, and Denmark. I also went on a five-day school trip without my parents, which was a great experience. Travelling has made me even more curious about other countries and different ways of life. For my exchange year, I do not just want to visit the United States as a tourist. It has always been a dream of mine to spend a year in the USA and experience everyday life, become part of an American family. I am especially excited about attending an American high school and experiencing school spirit, traditions, clubs, sports, and everyday school life. I enjoy English, geography, and politics, and I like learning about different countries and current events. I am interested in swimming, tennis, and badminton, but I would also love to try something completely new. It has always been my dream to live in the USA . However, the exact location is not the most important thing to me. Having a welcoming host family and feeling comfortable with them matters much more, and I would be grateful to live anywhere the USA. I would also love to share a little bit of Germany with my host family. I could bring German sweets, show you photos, cook a German dish, or teach you a few German words. At the same time, I am really looking forward to learning about your traditions and everyday life. Since I do not have any siblings at home, I think it would be really nice to have host siblings during my exchange year. Having a host sister or brother around my age would be especially nice, as we could go to school together, spend time together and share everyday experiences. However, I would also be very happy to be placed with a host family without children. I am open to every kind of family and would love to get to know my host family, become part of their everyday life and create our own memories together. The only thing I don't like is a spider as a pet. :D I know that an exchange year will not be perfect every day, but I am ready to leave my comfort zone, become more independent and learn from new experiences. I also know that I might not have the opportunity to do everything I have imagined for my exchange year or mentioned in this letter, and that is completely okay for me. I am open to new experiences and opportunities and I am excited to see where this year will take me. In the end, what matters most to me is finding a kind and welcoming host family where I can feel at home, become part of the family and share this special year together. After school, I would like to go to university, but I don’t know yet what I want to study or what career I would like to have. Hopefully, my exchange year will help me discover new interests and learn more about myself and my future. I hope I can bring some humor, curiosity, and a positive attitude to your family. I am really looking forward to sharing everyday moments with you, laughing together, and creating memories that I will remember for a long time. I can’t wait to meet you! Warmly, Greta
