's Letter
Hi, future Host Family,
I am very excited to tell you a little about me. I hope with this letter you can know me better, learn about my personality, the things I like to do, and what I hope to experience during my exchange program.
I am a little shy in the beginning, especially when I don’t know people very well. But I usually make friends easily, and when I feel comfortable, I am very friendly, funny, and I love to laugh. I like going out with my friends, but I am also very close to my family. I love staying at home, spending time with my parents and my pets, and doing my hobbies.
I have many hobbies and I always like to learn something new. I love cooking, and I plan to cook some Brazilian food for you. I also love crochet, especially making clothes. I am learning how to sew, and I like creating things like fabric bracelets, accessories with beads, and even rosaries.
Another thing that I love is doing my nails. Don’t be surprised if I have a different color on my nails every few days, they can be shiny, holographic, or have drawings. I also like painting and listening to music, especially sertanejo, pop, and pop rock. I like watching movies and series, and I love Disney, especially Zombies and Descendants.
I am a very active person and sports have always been part of my life. I have practiced swimming, ballet, jazz, volleyball, Muay Thai, gymnastics, tennis, beach tennis, taekwondo, spinning, and other activities. Today, I practice Muay Thai and spinning. During my exchange, I would love to try new things, especially cheerleading and figure skating. I think doing an activity at school can also help me meet people and make new friends.
At school, I think I am a good student. I take my studies seriously, pay attention in class, and usually have good grades. Some subjects are easier for me and others are more difficult, but I always try to study and do my best. Sometimes I can get a little distracted, but this does not stop me from doing my normal activities. I have professional support and use medication only during my study time, so this is already part of my routine.
Another very important part of who I am is my faith. I am Catholic and I like to have moments to pray and be close to God. If it is possible with your family’s routine, I would really like to continue going to church on Sundays. I would also love to learn about your traditions and your faith, if this is part of your family.
I am a sentimental person and I care a lot about the people close to me. Sometimes I need a little time to talk about my feelings, especially when I don’t know someone very well. I hope this exchange can also help me communicate better, grow as a person, and become more independent.
I love pets, especially dogs, cats, and birds, but I have to say that I am very scared of insects, spiders, and reptiles. I also love children and spending time with family. Because of this, I am very excited to be part of an American family’s routine. I want to be part of meals, trips, conversations, and also the simple moments of everyday life.
I have had the opportunity to travel to some countries with my family, and I discovered that I love visiting new places and learning about different cultures. I also love the beach, hot weather, flowers, especially lilies, fashion, sweets, ice cream, and Italian gelato. I love memes, laughing about silly things, and having fun when everyone is enjoying the time together.
I know that living for many months far from my family, in another country and speaking another language, will not be easy every day. I will probably miss my home sometimes, and I will need to get used to many new things. But I think this is also an important part of the experience.
I want to respect my Host Family’s rules and traditions, help with things at home, and become more responsible and independent. I don’t expect to find a family exactly like my family in Brazil. I want to know you the way you are, understand your routine, and learn from you.
I am also very excited to experience American traditions that I always see in movies and series. I think it would be very special to spend Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s with you and see how these holidays are celebrated in the United States.
What I hope most from this exchange program is to come back home more mature and independent, speaking much better English, with new friends, knowing a new culture, and with many stories and memories.
I also want to share a little bit of Brazil with you through our food, culture, stories, and my life here. More than just having a place to live, I hope to find a family that I can share this experience with. I want to learn from you, be part of your life, and maybe create a relationship that can continue even after my exchange program is finished.
I am very excited to meet you and start this experience.
With love,
Isabella
