's Letter
Dear Future Host Family,
first of all, I would like to thank you so much for the amazing opportunity to spend my exchange year in your country and to become a part of your family. In the last years I was three times in the United States with my family. I like this country and the people. I'd love to experience life in an American family and also give my host family the chance to learn about life in Germany. Are you interested?
My name is Lina and I live with my parents and my older brother in a house. That's why I would be happy if I had host siblings in my host family if possible. I would love to be full involved in family life, with all the responsibilities that come with it.
My family and I are very interested in sports. My brother and I both play handball for a club; this sport isn't very well known in America, so I'd love to tell you a little bit about it. I'd be happy if you were interested in sports, too. I'm open to all kinds of sports.
That’s exactly why I’m looking forward to life at an American high school, because there are so many sports programs there. In Germany, the school system is completely different. We have a set schedule, and sports activities take place outside of school in clubs.
My friends would describe me as an open-minded, reliable, and always happy person. I’m open to new experiences, which is why I’m looking forward to spending a year in the United States. I'm used to helping at home, so I would like to help here too. Through my previous vacations in the U.S., I’ve gained wonderful insights into the people, as well as the natural beauty and the country as a whole. Now I’d like to get to know it not as a tourist, but as part of your family. I’m really looking forward to learning about your traditions, improving my language skills, and sharing my own culture with you.
I hope that over the course of this year, I’ll improve my language skills, have lots of new experiences, make new friends, grow as a person, and, above all, spend a lot of time with you as my host family.
I hope this letter has given you a little impression of who I am and that you can imagine me as part of your family for a year. Although I probably won't always know how everything works in the USA, I promise to bring curiosity, laughter and lots of unforgettable memories, and I'm already looking forward to meeting you.
Lina, your future family member.
