's Letter

Dear host family, thanks for considering me, I‘m so excitd to become a part of your family! My name is Clara and I‘m from Germany. I want to see the world and it‘s many different cultures and I think an exchange year is the perfect opportunity for that. I would describe myself as a friendy, creative, reliable and open minded person. I speak three languages, fluent German, good English, which I have been learning for seven years and I’m looking to become fluent in, and French, which I have learned for two years. I enjoy swimming and snorkeling and one of my hobbys is scuba diving. I love beeing creative and I even go to an arts focused school. I like to draw and paint. My favorite utensils for that are acrylic paint and watercolour. I also like to use pencils and coloured pencils. Lately I‘ve been really into bedazzeling. I just love it when things sparkle. I did put an hibiscus flower on my phonecase and hello kitty on my headphones. You can also find hello kitty in a mike wazowski costume on my calculater. I also like crafting things, like doing pottery, making beaded jewelery and working with plaster. I live in a house with my mom, my dad, my younger sister, she is two years younger than me, and our dog Rocky who is a Bolonka Zwetna and nine years old. Do you have a pet? In our free time we like to play board games together. Our favorite ones at the moment are „Azul“, „Auf Achse“, „Catan“, although my dad doesn‘t like it, „Koppenhagen“ and „Wizzard“. Have you heard of any of them? My sister and I also like to play monopoly, but my parents don‘t like it that much. We even like to take them with us on vacation. We travel most of the time in our caravan which makes the transportation of them easier. With the caravan we‘ve been to other parts of Germany, to an island called „Fehmarn“ and to the „Bodensee“, Denmark, Austria, France, Croatia and Italy. Sometimes we also like to go an a cruise with AIDA. On cruise we went to Spain, Portugal, England, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Estonia. We once went by airplane to the US where we visited friends in South Carolina and Florida. There we also went to Disney World, which I thought was very magical. I did went on vacation without my parents one time. I travelled in a group of teenagers to croatia. The whole trip was organized by the church. I want to do an exchange year in the US because I liked it so much on my trip with my parents. I especially like how different everything was in comparison to Germany. But of course that‘s not everything. I also want to learn more about the american culture. Because everything was so different, I want to see if there are some simmularities. I also want to experience things I know we don‘t have, like Thanksgiving and the 4th of July. I also want to get to know a different school system. I switched schools here in Germany, but that‘s not nearly the same thing. I want to know how everything works and want to experience it myself. I definetly want to become more independent and I think living in a new country for ten months is a good way to do so. I hope I can make some friendships that last a lifetime and mybe I can even find a second home across the world. I think of an exchange year as an adventure where I can make many new memories and experiences. It‘s also a good oppertunity to challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone because everything is new at first. But I‘m sure I will get comfortable and have an amazing time with you! I want to thank you again to be willing to take me in and want to get to know me. I‘m looking forward to our first contact, and I‘m excited to meet you in person. Warm regards Clara
