's Letter
Dear future host family,
Firstly, I want to thank you for welcoming me into your family. I would be very thrilled to become
your next exchange student in the year of 2027/28 in the United States of America!
My name is Victoria and I am from Germany. I live near a big city in southern Germany with my
mother, my dad and my dog whose name is Jamil. He is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Jamil will turn six
years soon. I was raised as a catholic and believe in God. My favorite subjects at school are Sports,
English and French.
Something which I really like is travelling. I really like spending my vacation at the beach or in a
city. I prefer warm weather way over cold weather. In my freetime, I also like to watch series, like
„Stranger things“ or „Outer banks“. Spending time with my friends and family is also very important
to me. When I am talking about them, let me introduce them!
I have several good friends in my class at school. Something which is maybe a bit uncommon is that I
have two best friends. I asked them to describe me in three words and they said loving, sporty and
outgoing. In my trio I would say that I am the most outgoing person. In my family, I have to do
chores like doing the dishes, cleaning my room and some other stuff. I would absolutely help you in
the household as well and adjust myself to you. During the weekends, my mom, my dad and me are
spending much time together, which I really enjoy. It varies what we do, sometimes we watch TV
together and sometimes we just have long talks about daily life. I actually share some of my hobbies
with my parents.
I have been playing tennis since I am six years old, just like my mom :) I have done many other
sports in my life but for some reason, I only play tennis today. Outside of tennis training, I
sometimes play tennis together with my mom for fun. In my exchange year, it would be nice to play
tennis, but I am open about new sports and maybe trying something else. I also love baking and
cooking, just like my dad. I often cook dinner with my dad, and it is super fun. He also taught me
how to cook. I always like to bake when I am having a bad day because it kind of makes me feel
better.
But why do I want to do an exchange year? When I was younger, I was never happy about leaving my
family for more than one week since I really am a family person who loves spending time with them.
When I was younger, I sometimes got homesick, but it got better over the years, and I have become
more independent. Then, about two years ago, I got to speak with an American exchange student
for my upcoming English exam at my school in Germany. She told me a lot about her high school life
and some of the differences between the US and Germany. That was the beginning of this story.
Then, one day I got home from school and told my parents I wanted to do an exchange year in the
United States and here I am.
When I am in the US for my exchange year, not only do I want to learn about the culture and
improve my English, but I want to feel this high school spirit, I want to make American friends, and I
want to experience prom and homecoming. Ever since that exchange student talked to me, I
couldn’t stop talking about spending a year abroad in the United States. I want to try the American
food, and I also want to learn about the traditions in the states. Furthermore, I want to make
memories that last for a lifetime. For me, one of the most important things is that I can be a part of
your family, spend a lot of time with you and become a part of your daily life.
I am extremely grateful for this opportunity from my parents but also from you guys and I can’t wait
to start this new chapter with you as my host family in the United States of America as a part of
your family. I can’t wait to meet you! Sincerely, Victoria
