's Letter

Dear future host family, my name is Lorin and I am from Turkey, because both of my parents were born there, but I live in Germany, since my parents moved here a long time ago. First of all, I want to thank you for choosing me. It means a lot to me. In this letter I want to tell you more about me: My name is Lorin and my hobbies are horseback riding, playing the guitar, crocheting and badminton. I took guitar lessons for 8 years and although I don’t have them anymore, I can still read notes or chords and play songs like Riptide or Country Roads. Horse riding is my favorite hobby. I’ve been doing this for 11 years now and I never got bored. Since I was a little child I always tried to convince my parents to buy me a horse. My absolute dream is of course to live at a horse stable, but I guess just having a horse is more than enough! Like a year ago I started learning how to crochet and since then I’ve made things like a blanket, a rabbit or a skirt. Whenever I am upset I crochet because it kind of relaxes me. I don’t take badminton lessons, but it’s still so much fun, because it’s not that hard and everybody can play it. Sometimes when I’m alone I just put on my music playlist and even sing a bit, although my voice is not the best singing voice. My favourite movies are The Harry Potter movies and Enola Holmes and I listen to singers like LEVKA (a German singer), Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift. I currently live with my parents and my little sister. My mother works in the institute for blind people and my father has his own company and works as a drywaller. Every summer my family visits us in our house in Turkey at the beach, which is like a second home to me. This is the reason why my friends always say, that I have a life like in the series ‘The summer I turned pretty‘. And honestly, I sometimes wish I could live like in series, especially ’Outer Banks’ (my all time favorite series) or a series that just has to do something with summer and the beach. My parents are from Turkey and speak Turkish. I can speak it too, not as good as them, but understandable. Our culture is really beautiful: We have really good food, which I can cook for you, and there is something called a ‘Henna evening‘. It’s a ritual before a wedding, where the bride gets a henna stain on her hand. Because henna is apparently growing in the paradise, it gives luck to the couple and saves them from ‘evil eyes‘. You can also do beautiful tattoos with Henna, that last for a few weeks. I can bring some and then we can all do each other Henna tattoos! Anyways, my friends would probably describe me as funny and intelligent, because unfortunately I am that student, that thinks she failed after a test, but still gets an A. My friends and I do everything together: shopping, sleepovers or just chlilling at somebody’s house. As I said I have a sister and we both literally have the same humor and understand each other pretty well. Whenever she needs help with her homework or needs to study for a test I am there for her. I will miss her really much during my exchange year, but I know it was the right decision, because I want to improve my English skills of course, but I also want to get some new experience and learn to be almost on my own and become more confident. I chose the US, because I want to live the High School life and learn about American traditions. I am looking forward to you as my future host family will be like a second family to me. I also want to break down prejudices and stereotypes, because in my opinion you can’t judge a country where you haven’t even been. During my exchange year I want to try as much as I can: I love the beach, which is why I want to try Beach Volleyball. I am not the most athletic person, but I still want to try Cheerleading, because it look so incredible, and much more. I am also really excited for events like Football Games, Homecoming, Prom or Thanksgiving. Last but not least, I want to thank you again for choosing me. It is not guaranteed, that a family like you hosts a person, they don’t really know, for 10 months.Thank you! I am really excited to meet you! Yours, Lorin
