Dear Host Family,
thank you so much for being willing to participate in the exchange program and accepting me to live with your family. My name is Anna and I’m from Germany. To my family belong my Mum and Dad, my older sister Emma (20) and my older brother Peter (18) and our two cats Mieke and Monsieur. We spend many time together if we can. My older sister moved out one year ago for studying and my brother is going to finish school this summer.
During the week we have breakfast together and we try to have lunch or dinner together too. So we have time to share what happenend during school. I’m very open minded and I love to get to know new people. I love to listen to other stories and to learn from other people.
I go by train to school with my brother and we need about 30 minutes including walking. I learn three languages at school: Latin, French and English. Sometimes my English is a little like German, but I hope you will understand me. My favourite subjects are Music and German. But I like Sports too. Actually I would like many subjects - if the teacher would be good. I like to be in school being together with my friends. Usually, I stay at school till 1.15 pm, sometimes till 3.30 pm. After school I often go to the gym. Sometimes with my friend, sometimes by my own.
Then I go home. After having lunch I enjoy a short break to calm down – everybody in our family loves this break. I love to chill listening to music, watching Tiktok, Instagram or an episode of a serie. And I practice my music instruments.
My siblings and I must help in our household: doing the laundry, cleaning our room and our bathroom, helping in the kitchen. So, how will I support you in your home?
I’m a very independent, straightforward, passionate, empathic, cooperative and loving person. I love to play board games with my family and friends.
I also enjoy doing sports: Gym and running and I played field hockey for four years, but I quit the team one year ago. I would love to do sports in America too. Maybe playing volleyball or track and field or anything else? I would try whatever would be possible. But if it’s not possible I have many more interesting’s I could try: theatre, help in church, musical, orchestra, singing – whatever will be offered. During this year I want to try out a lot and even find new hobbies.
The church and believing in God are important for my life. My parents told me about Jesus and God. Maybe it is possible to be part of an protestant church community in America? I would love it.
I play the clarinet for six years and also the piano for four years. I am part of the orchestra of our school and part of an ensemble as well. I love to make music with other people. Maybe I could join an orchstra or a Bigband or Jazzband in your school?
My Dad studied Theology and became a pastor. Now my Dad works for Youth organization. He is very busy and travels a lot. When he’s at home he cooks and helps in the household a lot. My Mum studied German, Theology and Education and became a teacher in high school. Now she is a teacher for new teachers (students at the university). She only works for 50% and she is often at home welcome us after school.
The family of my father is living in the south of Germany. The family of my mother is living in the north of Germany. I have ten cousins. We meet them regularly. I love to be around with my family specially the one from the north and I’m always looking forward meeting them or welcome them at our home. What’s about your family? Do you meet them often or do they live far away? I would like to get to know them if it’s possible.
I like to travel and me and my family visited many countries in Europe. I have no idea, what traveling means in America because the country is so big? I’m looking forward to tell you more about “good old Germany”. I hope getting inspired of the American way of life and belief and to join many typical American events like Thanks Giving, Homecoming and Prom.
I am excited to become a part of your family, laughing and crying with you, telling you something about myself and learn from your way of life. I hope I will have unforgettable memories with you and my new friends in America. Thank you for giving me this opportunity!
Warm Regards
Anna
