Mélissa
's Letter
Dear Host Family,
My name is Mélissa, and I have always dreamed of having an experience like this. My father did an exchange year himself, and I love it when he tells me all his stories; it’s a quintessential experience—hosting a foreign student is such a generous and precious thing, and I would be more than thrilled to share this experience with you. I also absolutely want to improve my English. Furthermore, I believe this kind of experience is enriching for both the student and the family. I would be delighted to share French traditions with you, such as cooking a typical dish from my home. My goal is to create as many memories as possible and to build my own adventure. This year, I want to say "YES" to everything because I want to be in total immersion, discovering as much as possible about your culture and your family life.
I love holidays like Christmas, where everyone gets together to sing Christmas songs while decorating the tree and having a Christmas movie marathon with a nice hot chocolate. I also have an older brother whom I love very much, even if he prefers to tease me all the time—I really enjoy laughing with him. I’ve also always wanted a sister my age, like my best friend. That would be really cool! I am also very close to my friends and love seeing them often. I am the type of person who forms strong bonds; it allows me to share great moments and strengthen my relationships. My best memories with them are the city music festival and the end-of-year prom. I love them so much. I also love sports, especially team sports like basketball, but I would also love to be a cheerleader. Team spirit is essential, but what’s also great is watching the games—they are so stressful and exciting!
I am also quite a fan of shopping; I think my mother is actually tired of going from store to store with me! I love learning new things and improving myself, even though I can be a bit of a daydreamer sometimes. I am very curious, caring, and respectful, and I know how to live well with others. I want to live every moment to the fullest and come home full of nostalgia, having lived a true dream: the Friday night football games, tasting all those snacks that are far too sweet but addictive, the high school atmosphere, shopping for a prom dress, and taking as many photos as possible. I just love the American joie de vivre.
There is so much excitement that I didn't know where to start, but I am looking forward to meeting you, spending time with you, and creating deep bonds. I know that this will allow me to grow personally because I don’t want to live with regrets; I want to try new things and meet people who will stay in my heart forever.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and I hope to see you very soon.
