Dear Host Family,
First of all, thank you very much for welcoming me as a volunteer host student. I truly appreciate your kindness. Although we have not met yet, I am very much looking forward to the day I can meet you and spend time together.
I have always dreamed of living and working abroad in the future. To see if that dream is truly right for me, I wanted not just to travel, but to actually live with an American family and attend a local high school. This exchange program is a big challenge for me and an important first step toward my future.
During my homestay, I hope to become a member of your family and share everyday life with you. I would love to experience how holidays are celebrated in the United States, even the ones that are also celebrated in Japan, and learn about the differences. I am also excited to enjoy the American holidays that we do not have in Japan. By sharing ordinary moments of daily life, I hope to learn about American family life and values.
As a member of the family, I would like to help with daily chores such as cleaning, doing the dishes, and laundry. I want to take initiative and find ways to help on my own.
At school, I am excited to experience a different style of classes and learn as much as I can. I hope to broaden my perspective by spending time with students my age. I would love to share laughter, worries, and meaningful moments together. I want to use English not just as a subject in school, but as a tool to connect with people.
On weekdays, I spend most of my time at school and club activities. I am a manager of the baseball team, where I support the players. Through this role, I have learned the importance of responsibility, paying attention to others, and doing my best until the end.
On weekends, I enjoy playing the guitar and going out with my friends. I also like watching movies, especially heartwarming stories.
I am from Okinawa, and I have practiced calligraphy for nine years. I would be happy to write your favorite words in Japanese characters or share a simple calligraphy experience with you. I would also love to introduce the Okinawan dialect, traditions, and music. I hope we can share our cultures and learn from each other.
My family consists of my mother and grandparents. I value the time I spend talking with my mother about our daily lives. Because I have grown up in a warm and supportive family, I also want to cherish the connections I make with others.
In the future, I hope to study languages and international relations at a university in Japan. My goal is to work in an international environment where I can connect with people from around the world. One of my dreams is to work at Walt Disney World Resort as a staff member. In order to achieve that dream, I want to improve my practical English skills and deepen my understanding of different cultures through this exchange.
I sincerely hope that the time we spend together will be warm and meaningful for all of us. Thank you again for welcoming me into your home. I am very excited to meet you.
Sincerely,
Shizuku
