Dear Host family,
I am a 15 year old boy who currently lives in a small town in the northern part of Italy. I was born in England, and moved to the German speaking part of Switzerland when I was 2 years old, before settling in my current home town two years ago. My parents have been divorced since I was 5, therefore I live in Italy with my mother and sister, who is 3 years older than me, while my father still lives in Switzerland.
I consider my relationship with my mother to be based on respect. We’ve always had lots of fun, especially on the holiday trips we took with my sister when we were kids. She frequently helps me study for Italian, Latin and History, as she has a great knowledge of them. Although we live almost 200 miles apart, my dad and I have a very close relationship where we speak every day, and alternate visiting each other. When I visit him, on school holidays or extended weekends, we often go on long walks and have deep talks, go shopping and we also love to watch movies together, especially horrors, thrillers or action comedies. When it comes to my sister, we have disagreed about anything and everything for almost our entire childhood, however, given that we are now grown up, we have a far more peaceful relationship. We also like to go on walks and talk a lot. A passion that we both share is redecorating / styling our rooms and spaces, so we often like to help each other in these little renovation projects.
I would describe myself as fun, sarcastic and humorous, yet also reliable and respectful on a day to day basis. I am a very driven person and determined to reach my goals. On a typical weekday, I wake up at 5:45 AM to get ready for the gym. I wash my face and have breakfast, which usually consists of a protein bar, a banana and a pre-workout shake. After getting ready, I head to the gym on my bike, while I listen to music. I lift for around 45 minutes, before pedaling home, where I shower and get dressed for school. I go to a quite small school (about 250 students) that starts at 8 AM and ends at 1:30 PM. Personally, I chose the linguistics program, and therefore study English, Spanish and Chinese in addition to the obligatory subjects such as Italian, Physics, Science etc. The ones I most enjoy include Spanish, Maths, Philosophy and P.E., however there are some that I find less interesting, such as History and Biology. All in all, I would say that I enjoy learning new things and believe that I’m quite good at it, which is well reflected in my grades.
Some of my best traits, in my opinion, are my sense of humor, my ability to quickly adapt to new environments and to pick up new information and my loyalty to the people I care about. On the contrary I can sometimes be impatient and get frustrated in stressful situations. When it comes to hobbies, I think of sports, of which my favorite, without a doubt, is soccer. Even though I recently stopped, to focus on school and the gym, I’ve always practiced it, and I still do with my friends. It’s also a big bonding point for me and my grandpa. We often watch, analyze and comment on games. Other than that we also love to play cards together. There are a lot of other sports that I enjoy a lot as well, for instance table tennis, Tennis, Swimming and Badminton. Another hobby that plays a huge role in my life is music. I don’t sing or play any instruments, but I listen to music a lot. I listen mostly to American rappers and pop artists, but I also enjoy some rock, the Red Hot Chili Peppers my favorite band. When I study though, I actually listen to classical music.
Thank you so much for taking your time to read my letter and application. I really hope that you consider making my dream of living in the USA a reality. Have a lovely rest of your day
Best wishes
M.
