Hello dear host family, My name is Gabin and I am 15 years old as I write this letter, perhaps 16 by the time you read it, as I was born in May. First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for allowing high school students like me to fulfill their dreams. I am a French student living in eastern France. I am someone who always tries to smile and bring happiness to others. I am in my first year of high school and I love soccer, which is my greatest passion. I also enjoy video games, music, and movies. I don't know what career I want to pursue in the future, but in high school, I like history, geography, and sports, because I play a lot outside of school and it allows me to let off steam. I also like English because I find it a rich language, necessary for traveling, which I love to do, but also because English and especially American culture fascinate me. I have a sister who studies law and works in a court. I am very close to her and love her very much. We sometimes argue, but we also have common interests, such as Formula 1. My parents are divorced and I live with my mother during the week. I go to my father's house every other weekend. My mother is a mattress manufacturer and my father has a roofing company where he works as a laborer. We often go to my grandparents' house to talk or play bord games. I don't have many friends at high school because I prefer to have a few friends I can count on rather than lots of friends and find myself alone when I have a problem. Despite this, I get on pretty well with everyone. My grades are pretty good, and to do even better, I study for about an hour a day to improve my knowledge and get excellent grades. When I have free time, I like to see my friends, play video games, and watch movies on my couch or at the theater. I also like sports and soccer. I've always wanted to discover new things and new cultures, and playing video games has allowed me to talk to many people from many different countries, but this program allows me to do even more. I have always dreamed of coming to the United States, whether for the sports, the incredible athletes, and the atmosphere in the stadiums, or to discover beautiful landscapes, a new culture, speak and learn a new language, and discover different cuisine and music. One day, a friend of mine went to the United States, and when he came back, he told me he had seen the most beautiful landscapes he had ever seen, and that really appealed to me. I think this program can be beneficial to you too because it allows you and me to discover and learn more about each other's cultures. What's more, I think I can help you with household chores by emptying and filling the dishwasher when it's full or ready, I can also set the table every evening and clear it away, I do the cleaning, vacuuming, window cleaning, but I can also help you emotionally because I am a good listener and capable of having serious discussions. I can also help your children with their homework, if you have any. I always try to make people smile, whether by smiling myself or telling little jokes. I think I can be an asset to you and the school where I will be working, and this will allow many people to learn more about Europe. I can also cook typical dishes from France or the region where I come from, and I am helpful, so if you need me for anything, I will always be there and will always give my all.
