's Letter
Dear Host Family,
Thank you so much for letting me participate in the exchange program in the US and accepting me to live with you.
I will start by introducing myself. I am a Spanish boy currently studying 3rd of secondary school, which is the equivalent of the 9th grade in the US education system. Here in Spain it is one of the most difficult grades, so I am doing my best to get the highest grades possible to allow me to study in the US next year.
I go to school from Monday to Friday from 9AM to 5PM. The school is quite close our apartment so I can even go walking. In the evening and twice a week I have English lessons at home with a native teacher, in addition to the English lessons at school. In the evenings I do homework, review and I keep on track what I learned at school that day. This activity let me to better organize myself, have free time and enjoy my hobbies.
Regarding my hobbies, I play in a soccer team and practice twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) and compete in a league on weekends.
I really like soccer and sports, but my favorite hobby is airplanes. My dream is to be a pilot. I have a flight simulator that recreates the actions of a pilot, such as flying the plane, preparing the flight plan, taking off and landing, etc. I enjoy playing on the simulator, so I can memorize the buttons and steps to execute the flight correctly. When I travel with my family by plane, I always ask the flight attendant and the pilot if I can look at the cockpit, and sometimes if I am lucky they let me go inside. Additionally, I love going to the airport with my grandfather to watch planes in action and take pictures of them. Photography is also one of my hobbies and I always try to carry my camera with me, especially when I travel with my family.
I really like pets, especially dogs. Unfortunately we are not able to have a dog at home, but on vacation sometimes we travel to cottages and farmhouses in Spain and my sister and myself enjoy playing with dogs living there.
America has been always a dream for me and that´s the reason why I would like to experience a full year studying in a high school and living with a host family to better leverage the program. I can't wait to learn about the US culture, traditions, and lifestyle. I am sure that this program will be very positive for me, not only to improve my English but also to open my mind, to step out of my comfort zone, to visit new places and the most important thing: to meet people and make good friends.
Studying in a high school will let me to learn the US education system, which is different to the Spanish one, to practice sports and meet new colleagues.
I live with my parents and my nine´s year-old sister in an apartment in the east of the city. The neighborhood is very nice and quite, including sports areas, parks and some restaurants and it is very well communicated to the city center by underground.
My father works for a company of the electricity sector and my mother works for a multinational American company as HR specialist, so she speaks English on a daily basis. Both always encourage my sister and myself the importance of speaking English, to travel abroad, to know other cultures and to be open minded.
On the weekends, I love going out with my friends around the neighborhood, meet people, talk and sometimes eat a good burger. Once a month I visit my grandparents who live close to us and have a good time with them. My grandfather likes telling us stories and remember past experiences. We are a very close family and I love them.
Regarding my future plans, I would like to study aviation and become an airline pilot. It has been my dream since I was a little boy. When I get on a plane it gaves me good vibes and I am fascinated to see all the buttons and systems that a pilot must know and manage. I also like this profession because it should be a great responsibility to pilot a plane with hundreds of people on it!. This is my passion and I will work hard to achieve it, because no one can understand the feeling and peace that I find just playing a flight simulator, going to the airport or when I am in a plane.
I hope this letter will allow you to know a little more about me. I am looking forward to starting the program, going to the US and take advantage and enjoy this experience with a host family!
Best wishes,
Victor,
