's Letter
Dear host family,
I have been talking to my parents about spending a year in the United States since I was 12 years old.
Of course, I want to discover a new culture, but above all, I want to understand the “American dream” and experience American traditions. That's why I want to go for a long time, stay with a family, not be with other French people, live with you, like you, and not just take a few weeks' vacation.
The school system is very different from France's, with much more diversity in subject choices and a significant emphasis on extracurricular activities. This would be an opportunity for me to make new friends by participating in activities that sometimes don't even exist in France. I am as fascinated by big cities as I am by wide open natural spaces, and I hope to be able to travel a bit to get a glimpse of this immensity. I love nature, forests, and animals, but I also really enjoy the hustle and bustle of big cities, sightseeing, and museums.
I see this trip as a real exchange experience that will allow me to better understand Americans, but I will also be very happy to introduce you to France, its traditions, and its values. The country is much smaller, but there is great diversity between regions!
I am very studious and my main goal is to return home practically bilingual, and to achieve this, you can be sure that I will participate in all your daily activities.
I hope to meet you very soon and finally experience the year I have been dreaming of.
