's Letter

Dear host family, I'm already really excited about coming to the USA and getting to know its culture, cities, wildlife, and of course the people. Speaking of that, I'm looking forward to getting to know you pretty soon! First of all, here are some things you should know about me: I'm a German girl whose favorite color is red and whose favorite animals are sheep (they are just so cute and woolly). Currently, I'm in 10th grade and I like how things are going in school. For example, I really enjoy being part of extracurricular activities like the debate club or organizations that focus on helping others. Another thing about me is that I'm quite into math and science, participating in math and biology olympiads on a regular basis. A few other hobbies of mine are reading, especially classic literature, visiting art exhibitions, and museums, and taking long walks in nature. Spending time with my friends and family is important to me too and naturally, I can do so, for example, by doing some of the activities mentioned above with them. As for my family I have two older siblings who don't live at home anymore: Jessica, my sister, and Daniel, my brother. Weekends I usually spend with one of my parents. We sometimes go for walks, stay at home, and play board games or watch a movie. I pretty much love going to school because all my friends go there and every day we have a great time. After school, we sometimes meet up to do something in the city or at someone's house. I’d love to learn more about life in the USA in general including the school system and I think it would be quite fun to exchange cultural characteristics. For example, I could bring you close to German traditions like certain Advent activities (e.g. Christmas markets, Advent wreaths, etc), St. Martin's day, huge bonfires on Easter and carnival. I could even make typical food from my home like fresh pretzels. On the other hand, I’d love it if you’d teach me about aspects of the American culture I don't know about yet. In the future, I plan on taking my A-levels (Abitur) in a few years and going straight to university afterwards. Right now I want to study medicine but I'm not sure about what I want to do specifically after getting my degree and my actual major might even change as I might change my mind again. I hope you now have an idea of who I am and at last, I just want to say that I'm really excited to become a part of your family! Best wishes, Zoe :)
