Dear Host Family,
My name is Miguel, and I’m going to be 17 years old. I live in Spain with my parents, my brother and our dog Luna. We’re a very close family, and we love spending time together sharing meals, playing board games, going on small trips, and supporting each other at sports games. We enjoy simple moments, like talking after dinner or watching a movie together.
At home, I help with everyday chores like making my bed, keeping my room organized, doing the laundry (when needed), taking out the trash, putting dishes in and taking them out of the dishwasher, setting and clearing the table, and helping in the garden (when Dad asks for it). I think it’s important to contribute and be responsible, especially when living with others.
At school, I work hard and try to stay on top of everything. I’m organized and responsible with my homework and studies, and I always try to give my best, even in subjects that are more challenging for me. Basketball is one of my biggest passions, and I practice whenever I can, playing with friends, playing at school, or shooting hoops on my own. It’s a sport that motivates me, helps me disconnect, and teaches me discipline and teamwork. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, discovering new places, going out together, etc.
People who know me would say I’m friendly, respectful, responsible, and that I have a good sense of humor. I like making people laugh and creating a positive atmosphere around me. I try to be open‑minded, adaptable, and optimistic, especially when I’m facing something new or challenging.
I decided to join an exchange program because I’m really excited about living with a host family and experiencing a completely different way of life. I would like to be part of your daily routines, learn how you do things, and understand your traditions and habits. I think living with a family is the best way to truly experience the culture, learn more about life in the United States, and improve my English in a natural and fun way.
I’m especially excited about going to the U.S.A. because it’s the home of basketball, a sport I truly love and admire. I spent five weeks there one summer, and I enjoyed it so much—the people, the lifestyle and the school environment—that I wanted to take the next step and study a full school year abroad. I’m also looking forward to trying different specific subjects at school and to experience a more practical and hands‑on learning style, something that isn’t as common in Spain, and I think this will help me figure out what I want to study in the future (I would like to study Engineering) and grow both academically and personally.
I hope I can contribute to your family by being responsible, helpful, and excited to share everyday life with you. I want to be a respectful and positive member of your home, someone you can trust and enjoy having around. I’m really looking forward to joining school activities like basketball, participating in family hobbies, and going on trips to cultural or natural places. I’m eager to learn from you, share my own culture, and build memories that I’m sure will stay with me forever.
Thank you very much for your hospitality and for giving me the chance to be part of your family. I’m really looking forward to meeting you, learning from you, and sharing this amazing experience together.
All the best,
Miguel
