's Letter

Dear future host family, thank you very much for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to live with your family and get to know the life in your country. I would like to introduce myself briefly so that you know who I am. My name is Amelie, and I come from Germany, living in a small town near a bigger city. I live here with my parents and my two brothers. We live in a house with a garden. We also have a sweet cat, she is 7 years old, and her name is Luna. My father is a police officer, and my mother is an accountant. At the moment, I am attending high school in the 10th grade. The school is only a 10-minute walk from my home. My brother Marlon goes to the same school. However, this year he is doing a year abroad in the US and therefore attends school there. My other brother Jani was also an exchange student in America in New Mexico, but that was 5 years ago. By now, he has finished highschool and is studying to become a teacher at a university in a big city. The amazing experiences of my brothers made me very curious, which is why I would love to gather my own experiences as an exchange student. I am an athletic and active person, which is why my favorite subject in school is physical education. One of my favorite sports activities is skiing. Since I was 3 years old, our family has gone skiing every year during the winter holidays. I have been doing athletics with two of my friends for five years now at the same club. There, I train twice a week for two hours. I really like athletics because I can push myself while having a lot of fun and laughing a lot. I played the flute with a friend for four years. Additionally, I also played the French horn for a while. Since I stopped playing the French horn and the flute, I play the piano, which I have been doing for 4 years now. I really enjoy cooking and baking. Sometimes I cook for my family or help with the preparations. Moreover, I love baking cookies or other treats with my friends. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family. My best friend is very often at our house and is already like a second daughter to my parents. My older brother's girlfriend and a good friend of his are also often at our house. Together we like to play board games and enjoy the time. Furthermore, I like to travel, visit my relatives and explore new countries. For 5 years, I have been traveling with my family and friends to Lake Garda in Italy. During the winter holidays, we also travel to Italy in a large group to go skiing, as I mentioned earlier. This summer, I also went to a summer camp in Spain with two of my friends. It was wonderful. I met new people and made friendships that I still keep in touch with. I gained a lot of experiences and had an unforgettable time. I am open to new cultures and ready to meet new people. I am looking forward to seeing new things in the world. I want to travel to America because I want to see how people live there and how the life in America differs from the life in Germany. I also want to strengthen my personality and self-confidence. I really enjoy my hobbies, but I would also like to try something new, such as cheerleading. Family is very important to me, which is why I decided to live with a host family instead of doing a work and travel year. If they ask about my characteristics, I would say that I am cheerful, lively, responsible, and social. That’s why I want to get to know America as a high school student and not as a tourist. I hope we can create many wonderful memories together that we will never forget. I am really looking forward to meeting you soon. I hope you were able to get a first positive impression of me. Warm regards, Yours, Amelie
