Dear future host family,
I am Amelie and I am from Germany . I am very excited to spend my exchange year with you. I am really looking forward to my time in the United States and to getting to know you, your culture, everyday life and to experiencing new things with you.
I would like to share a little about my family background with you. My parents are divorced but they are still in a good relationship. My sister Marie and I change places weekly, so we spend one week at my moms place and the next week at my dads place. At my moms place I live with my younger sister, my mom Janine, my stepdad Gerhard and my two older stepbrothers Alexander and Leon.At my dads place it's just my dad Mike,my sister and me.
In my free time I like to spend time with my family and my friends. For my family and me, it's really important that we have at least one meal together at a day. So we can talk about eachothers days. We always spend this time without our phones to lay the focus on our family time. We also like play board games together or do oir movie nights. We also have traditions like always watching the same christmas movies every year. In my family it is very important that we support eachother and help when someone has problems. We are always there for eachother. At the end of the day I enjoy spending time together-talking,laughing,joking around and simply enjoying time with my family. I love dancing, playing tennis and I go to the gym regularly. .But I also like to do relaxing things like reading when I just want to calm down. I also love going shopping because I am interested in fashion and beauty.I like traveling with my family and friends. I already traveled to many countries like Italy,France,Spain,Austria,Great Britain,Denmark and Mauritius. I had very relaxing vacations at the beach but I also had many adventure trips for example going hiking or doing city trips. I also went on cruises and I really enjoyed it because you can see many different places in a short time and you can meet many new people. I also made friends on a cruise who I am still in contact with. I also love going to concerts, because it creates memories forever. I am also going to a "The Weeknd" Concert with my mom and my sister Marie. I am always open to try new things and also want to do new things in my exchange year. I am very curious about how different life is going to school in a different country and living there.
I go to a Gymnasium in Germany. It’s a type of secondary school that focuses a lot on academic subjects like math, languages, science, and history. It has higher expectations than other school forms in Germany. We prepare for the Abitur, which is our final exam and is needed to go to university. At my school, we even have school clothing, so we don’t just wear whatever we want every day. I like the idea of school clothes but sometimes it's a bit annoying because I want to wear my own clothes. Classes are more structured, and teachers expect us to be responsible and study independently. Overall, a Gymnasium is challenging, but it gives you a strong education and good chances for the future. My favorite subjects in school are languages and History. I learn spanish since 6th grade and english since 3rd grade.
I love animals and I used to have guinea pigs when I was younger and they were very cute.I don't have pets at the moment but I really love dogs. They are just so cute and I like spending time with dogs outside. I am also planning on getting a dog when I grow up.
I would describe myself as friendly, open-minded, and a bit shy at first, but once I feel comfortable, I talk a lot and enjoy laughing together. I am really interested in learning more about your culture and daily life, and I’m also excited to improve my English.
I would like to spend much time with you and do many activities like exploring the region or going shopping together or just relaxing and having movie nights together. I am excited to see how the holidays are celebrated for example Thanksgiving because we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Germany. i am excited to get to know you better. It is a very interesting journey.
Greetings,Amelie
