's Letter

Dear future host family, my name is Zoé and I'm from Germany. I cannot describe how excited I am to be able to experience an exchange year and to be part of an American family soon! I hope I get the opportunity to live in your family as part of my exchange program. I would consider myself as a kind, helpful and openhearted person. I'm also very emphatic, that's what my friends and family tell me, which I really appreciate. I would also consider myself as ambitious, because I want to achieve my goals. As I said before, I always try to help others the best I can, so I wouldn't mind taking care of animals or doing the chores at home. I really love animals, I also got a dog at home! That's why I wouldn't mind having any animals at my future host family home, because I love animals with all my heart, no matter what animal it is (except for spiders) and I would love that! Sometimes I can be a little clumsy, like bumping against random things for no reason or just stumbling over anything! But that's just how I am and I take it with humor! Additionally, most of the times I try to finish things individually, but when I need help, I'll definitely ask for it! But still, I'm a helpful person and will help you doing tasks anytime of course :). My hobbies are playing handball and drawing. I've been playing handball for 9 years now and I'm in training twice a week and it's so much fun! I also like playing volleyball even though I'm not in a volleyball club and dancing! I also used to dance. Some of my favourites were Bachata, Discofox and a traditional dance called "Wiener Walzer". Have you ever heard of it before? It's really nice. Spending time with my friends or family is also important to me, so I'd love to hang out with you too and play card- or board games with you if you like or going out on trips. I'm open for anything! I love trying out new sports or activities too! Does someone of you play a sport? if yes, which one? I'm really interested, maybe we could play it together! Another thing I really like is baking. It is so much fun to bake and just relaxes me, especially when you listen to music during the complete process. Do you like baking? I hope so, so we could bake together some time! The reason why I chose to go to the U.S is because it has been my dream to visit it and hopefully this dream will come true. I really want to be in an American Highschool once in my lifetime and see how the school spirit's there. The neighbourhoods are built differently in the USA than in Germany, therefore I'm really interested in seeing it with my own eyes. Moreover I'm really curious about how American families are like, so maybe you could show me? I'm not sure if you knew that, but many American restaurants, like Wingstop or Raising Canes don't exist in Germany! That's why it is my dream to try at least one of that food. Just going shopping with you would also make me very happy, because I'll be able to spend time with you! One of my biggest reasons, why I want to be in an actual highschool is to see a typical highschool football game on a Friday night. I've also never been in a sports club of a school before before, because unfortunately we don't really have any at mine. Therefore it's my goal to join any school's sports club I find interesting, especially a volleyball club or just any other club, because I want to try out new things. Going on trips would also me me happy. Personally, the hardest step for me will be to find friends in the beginning, but I'm really sure that everything is going to be alright. Furthermore I will definitely be respectful towards your family rules, because you're the one who'll give me a chance to experience my exchange year! I hope my exchange will fulfill my dreams and improve my English skills! In 2024 I went to an English speaking summer camp in Malta for teenagers for 2 weeks and one girl told me how funny and harsh my accent was and I was so shocked for a moment, especially because I didn't know people find the German accent harsh. That was new for me but still a funny and worthy experience, because I learned to accept it. I'm sure I'll be more independent after my stay and try my best to fit in your family, because I want to make that experience as enjoyable and comfortable for you and me! Moreover I'm excited to learn more about your culture, your family traditions and also your family values! At home I live with my parents, my dog and my brother in a house in a small village. We always eat lunch together. One tradition at my home is to brunch every Sunday for breakfast together and I could share that tradition with you if you like! I love to talk a lot when I'm comfortable. Sometimes I can be a little shy but that won't be a problem, because when I'm in the US, I'll definitely open myself! Do you have any traditions, like Thanksgiving? I've always wanted to experience that once in my life! Thank you so much for reading my letter and maybe even choosing me. Yours sincerely, Zoé :)
