My name is William and I come from the French speaking part of Belgium. I am seventeen years old and I’m going to spend one year in the United States of America. I enjoy discovering new things and new ways of life, that is why I want to spend one year abroad. I live in Belgium with my parents and my sister. My father’s name is Pierre-Henry. He is fifty-four years old and he enjoys cycling as I do but not as much as him. He is also fond of reading and cooking. My mother is Laurence. She is fifty-one years old and she enjoys reading books and hiking. As she works close to my school, she drives my sister and me in the morning but we come back home by foot, it is about thirty minutes walking distance. My sister is fourteen years old and her name is Camille, she likes to socialize. She plays badminton and enjoys cooking desserts. I also have three pets. Two cats (Maine coon breed) and one guinea pig. I enjoy petting and feeding them. We live together in the suburbs in a terraced house with a garden, in a country town. At home, I do the dishwasher, clean the patio, vacuum the house and tidy up my room. I also help my father to cook or sometimes cook by myself.
About my personality, I believe that I am a calm and friendly person. My teachers appreciate my behavior because I respect the authority and the rules of the school. I am an unpretentious student: when I am successful in something, I don’t share it with everybody to draw the attention of them. At school, I choose to study mathematics and sciences, English and Dutch among others. My favorite subjects are chemistry and English, I want to become chemist in the future.
After school, I usually study depending if I have work due for the next days or I practice outdoors sports. I go running and cycling with my father and sometimes go swimming at the public swimming pool. I enjoy watching movies with my family during the evening or playing video games with friends when I have nothing else to do.
Instead of directly going to university, I made the decision to participate in an exchange student program. I believe that it would help me for my personal development and to improve my level of English. I think it’s a thrilling and terrific experience to take part in. I chose the United-States because it is a nation that has a lot of influence across the world, especially in Europe, where I live. I have already been to the United-States to visit friends of my parents during Christmas and I enjoyed their way to celebrate it.
As an exchange student I believe that I will bring my own culture and I will share it with my host family, my school mates and the local community. As a person with an inquiring mind and open-minded, I wish to get to know the local people and discover their way of life as well as to get involved in the local community services.
As a conclusion, I’m looking forward to being part of your family for a whole school year. I want to thank you for welcoming me in your house as well as sharing your life and your family events with an exchange student.
Best regards,
William.
