's Letter
Dear Host Family,
I am delighted to have the opportunity to write to you and potentially become a part of your family. My own family consists of six members—my mum, my dad, my sisters, our dog, and me. We live by values such as fairness, equality, hard work, and respect. My parents have always encouraged us to show these qualities in our everyday lives, and I believe they play a big part in shaping who we are. Respect, in particular, is very important to us, as we believe it can take you a long way in life. We also make sure to share at least one meal a day together because it helps us stay connected and maintain a strong family bond. I hope these values are also meaningful in your home, as I believe shared values strengthen relationships.
These values also carry into my school life. At school, I am currently studying Mathematics, Science, English, French, Physical Education, and Health. My favourite subjects are Mathematics and Physical Education, and I can see myself pursuing a future career in one of these areas—most likely Mathematics, as I’ve always enjoyed problem-solving and logical thinking. School is a big part of my day, and my passion for learning plays an important role in shaping the person I’m becoming.
Outside of academics, I have a range of interests that help balance my life and make me who I am. I enjoy watching movies and TV shows, playing and watching sports, learning French, trying different foods, and spending time with my friends. These activities help me stay active, connected, and curious about the world. If I am fortunate enough to visit the United States, I am especially excited to experience the sports and food culture, as both are much larger and more diverse in the U.S. compared to Australia.
Sports, in particular, are a big part of my life. Some of my favourite sports to play are rugby league, touch football, Oztag, cricket, netball, and soccer. I love the energy and teamwork that come with playing sports. While in the U.S., I would really look forward to watching a baseball or American football game, as experiencing these sports in person would be completely new and exciting for me.
All of these interests fit into my daily routine. A typical day starts with waking up and jumping straight into the shower before getting dressed for school. I greet my family, make breakfast, and usually watch an episode of one of my TV shows before heading out. I take the train to school with my friends, and once classes begin, I have two 70-minute periods before our first lunch break. During break, my friends and I sit together, eat, and talk about whatever is going on at the time. We then have another class, a second break, and finally our last period of the day. After school, I catch the train home, have something to eat, and get ready to go to the gym or athletics training. When I get home afterward, I eat dinner, shower, and go to bed. My routine reflects the balance I try to maintain between school, fitness, family, and personal interests.
Underlying everything I do are the personal values I try to live by—being honest and staying true to myself. These values have helped me grow into the person I am today and have guided me in forming strong friendships and doing well in school. They are also values I hope to bring with me if I have the privilege of joining your family.
I believe my values, interests, and willingness to learn will help me contribute positively to your home, to the school, and to the community. I hope to share aspects of Australian culture and represent Australians in a positive, genuine way. It would mean a lot to me to build meaningful international connections and learn from the way of life in the United States.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my letter. I truly hope I will have the chance to become a part of your family.
Kind regards, Alex
