Dear Host Family, Thank you very much for considering hosting me. I am really excited about the possibility of living with a family in the United States. My name is Joel and I am from Catalonia, Spain. I live with my parents and my sister, and we are a close family. I think I am respectful, responsible, and easy to live with. At home, I help when needed and I am quite independent with my daily routines and homework. One of my biggest passions is sports, especially tennis, but I also like cycling and inline skating. I have been playing tennis since I was seven years old. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, after school, I go to my tennis lessons, and sometimes I play matches on weekends. For two years, before starting high school, I also practiced athletics, which I really enjoyed, and I still sometimes take part in running competitions. If possible, I would love to continue playing tennis while I am in the USA. I also like football (soccer), and my favorite team is FC Barcelona (Barça). On weekends, when I finish my homework and study for exams, I usually meet my friends and spend some time with them. I have known them since primary school. Even though I will miss them, I am very motivated to live this experience, meet new people, and make new friends. I want to be an exchange student mainly to learn more about American culture, traditions, and school life, but also to improve my English. I have heard that American high schools are quite different from schools in Spain, and I think this can be a great experience. I know that sports are very important in American schools, and I would love to try new sports, join clubs, and of course continue playing tennis if possible. I would also really like to try American football. In my free time, I enjoy reading comics, going to the mountains, and traveling with my family. Two or three times a year, we travel to another European country together. In the summer, we spend some weeks at the beach and some other weeks in a tiny village, where my grandparents have a house. I really enjoy spending time with my family. When we are at home, we usually eat together at the same time. We really like sharing meals, talking about our day, and spending time together. Fridays are special for us: we have pizza for dinner and watch a movie or a TV series together. I also love food. I really like pasta and traditional homemade dishes, but trying new food is one of my favorite things. I love discovering food from other countries, and I especially like spicy food. I would be very happy to try American food and share meals together. We do not have pets at home, but I really like animals, so I would be happy to live with a family that has pets. I would also be okay sharing the experience with another international student, as I think it could be nice to support each other, especially at the beginning. I am not sure yet what I would like to study in the future, but I think that spending a year abroad will help me grow, become more independent, and learn a lot.
