's Letter
Dear Host Family,
Hello! My name is Yuki, and I would like to thank you for considering hosting an exchange student. I’m excited to introduce myself and share a little about who I am.
I am a high school student from Japan, and I am applying for this exchange program because I’d like to learn about other cultures and ways of life. I hope to grow as a person through this experience and bring back what I learn to share with my school in Japan.
At my current school, I am a member of the student council and the choir. I regularly attend chapel services. If I had a chance, I’d like to participate in it in America, too. Also attend and help organize discussion events for student council members from different schools across Japan. I also enjoy planning class trips and other events with my classmates.
In my free time, I love outdoor activities. I’ve been skiing at places like Gala Yuzawa in Niigata, visited Shikine Island near Tokyo, gone to outdoor adventure parks, and relaxed in hot springs with friends. Even though I live in the city, my family has a vacation home in the countryside, where I learned DIY skills from my grandfather as a child.
Skiing is my favorite sport—I hold a Semi-Silver Badge from the International Ski Test. If you would like, I'm happy to go together. I also enjoy fishing and know how to fillet fish. Sometimes I prepare traditional dishes like sashimi, arajiru (fish soup), and sushi. I would love to cook some of them for you! I’ve had some experience making breakfast on my own when my mother couldn’t wake up early.
During the program, I hope to get involved in student council activities, join the choir, and take part in outdoor adventures. I’m also happy to share a bit of Japanese culture, especially through food!
Thank you again for considering welcoming a student from abroad into your home. Thank you very much for reading my letter.
Warm regards,
Yuki
