's Letter
Dear Host Family,
Thank you so much for welcoming me into your home. I am very excited about the
opportunity to live with an American family and to learn more about your culture and daily life. I hope this letter will help you get to know me better and understand who I am, my interests, and my goals for this exchange experience.
My name is Gonzalo, and I'm from Spain. I’m a very active and curious person who enjoys new experiences. I speak Spanish because it’s my native language, I can also communicate in French but not too much because I have been studying it for 6 years, and obviously I speak English but I’m here in part to apply all my knowledge in American daily life. I enjoy playing multiple sports such as tennis, climbing, soccer, and skiing. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I consider myself a very family-oriented and sociable person who enjoys meeting new people and sharing experiences with them. In the last two summers, I’ve been learning English in Dublin and Scotland, and I loved the experience of meeting new people from other countries and learning about their cultures.
I’m very excited to attend high school in the United States and live with an American family because I believe this experience will help me grow up as a person and become more independent. Actually, in Spain I’m doing an American Dual Diploma program where I learn more about America and its history. I hope to learn more about American culture, history and traditions, as well as American cuisine (I love burgers, turkey, pizzas, chicken…), the sports that are played there and the country’s natural landscapes, improve my English, and experience daily life in a new way. I also want to take advantage of all the opportunities that this experience offers to me. On the other hand I would also love to share some aspects of my culture so they can learn a bit about how we live in Spain and some of our customs.
In my home country, I live with my family (my parents and my 13-year-old brother) and I have a close relationship with them, I always help them with house chores. Besides, I have a lot of cousins and we used to get together and do many activities, such as parties, meals, go sightseeing and spend time in the mountains. My father works at a bank, and my mother is a doctor, so I have been influenced by both economics and science from a young age. I have good friends at school, and I enjoy studying as well as spending time with them doing sports and other activities. School is important to me, and I try to stay disciplined and work hard.
For my future, I plan to study something related to economics while also including aspects of science, because I am interested in both fields. I hope to work in a company where I can learn how businesses operate and, then, create my own company with the help of partners. I believe that combining knowledge of economics and science will open many doors for me in the business world. If for any reason I don’t work in economics, I would like to become an engineer because I enjoy designing and calculating.
I am very excited to become part of your family, share my culture with you, and learn from your experiences. I hope we can create many wonderful memories together during this exchange program.
Thank you so much for participating in the exchange program and accepting me to live with your family.
Warm regards,
Gonzalo
