Dear Host Family,
Hello, my name is Zena. I am very excited about the opportunity to become a part of your family during my exchange program in the United States. This will be my first time living abroad in this way, and I am both excited and grateful to experience American life through your family. If I had to describe myself in one sentence, I’d say I’m someone who is friendly, loves to laugh, and finds joy in new experiences, even when they scare me a little at first.
One of my biggest passions is music. I love singing, and I am currently the vocalist in my school band. Another part of me belongs to the ocean. There was a time when I dreamed of becoming a marine biologist because I felt so inspired by the sea. Even though I’ve chosen a different career path now, the ocean still makes me feel calm, alive, and inspired. Maybe one day we could go to the beach together, that’s one of the things I’m really hoping to do in the U.S.
I am also very excited about experiencing traditions that I have only ever seen in movies or videos. For example, dressing up for Halloween, celebrating Thanksgiving with a big meal, decorating for Christmas, or dancing at prom. To me, these aren’t just events, they are memories waiting to be made, and I want to share them with the people I’ll call family and friends while I’m there.
I know that living in a new country won’t always be easy, but I believe that challenges are what make us stronger. I am hoping to bring an open and positive spirit into your home. I don’t just want to live with you, I want to learn from you, laugh with you, and hopefully, leave behind a little piece of my culture for you to remember too.
Thank you, truly, for opening your hearts and home to a student like me. I can already imagine the conversations at the dinner table, the car rides, the little everyday routines, and the big celebrations. I’m looking forward to all of it, and most of all, I’m looking forward to meeting you.
Warmly,
Zena
