BLANCA

's Letter

Dear host family, My name is Blanca, and I'm really excited for the opportunity to become part of your family and experience life in the USA with you. I'm 15 years old and I'm from Spain. Currently, I live my parents, Pilar and Jose María, and my cat Messi. I also have two siblings, Paula and Marcos, but they don't live with me anymore, they are already working and they live in their own houses. All of them work as veterinarians, except my sister, who is a pediatrician. Our family life is pretty basic, we always have dinner together, I have lunch with my mom everyday and sometimes we meet up with my siblings to have lunch. Sometimes I even go with my dad to the city where my sister is living at the moment and we have dinner the three of us. I occasionally go shopping with my dad and watch TV shows with my mom. I go to school from 8:45 to 14:45, I always try to keep up with my homework. I spend an hour every day doing my homework and half an hour reviewing what we learned in class that day. During period of exams I study the whole evening. My favorite subjects are Ethics, English and Economics. I love playing guitar lately, my dad taught me basic cords, and then I continued learning on my own. I really enjoy talking to my friends, meeting up with them. I adore music. My favorite band is ''Wallows'', but I love other bands like The Smiths, The Beatles... I love watching movies or TV shows like Pretty Little Liars, The notebook, T@gged... I go every Sunday to church with my friend and I really enjoy reading my Bible on the evenings. I would say I'm really tireless, when I set up a goal, I work as hard as I can to archive it, and I don't care how long it takes or how much effort I have to do. Some friends say I'm very empathetic, and I think I agree with that, I always try my best to put myself in the other person's shoes and I listen to them as long as they need. I also know when to listen and when to give advice. I want to do this program because I think it's a great opportunity to grow personally and academically. I want to learn a new culture from the inside, practice English every single day, meet new people, experience daily activities of a brand new country for me. Also, not only learn, but represent my own culture to new places, like food. I want to learn to be more independent from my own family and friends, responsable and open to different things. I'm convinced that this experience will help me archive all those things. At school, I would participate, share my thoughts and show respect and kindness at all times. In the community, I would help other, volunteer and learn from everyone around me. I love meeting new people, so I would really try my best to get to know everyone, and the same applies to the school. At home, I would help in everything I can, try my best to include myself as one of the family, I would love to spend quality time with the family. Lastly, I wanted to thank the family for the hospitality for doing this. I'd say this is one of the biggest dreams I've ever had since I was a kid, and being able to finally do it thanks to the families that are willing to welcome me into the family feels amazing. I hope you that this experience is as enriching as it will be for me. Thank you so much.
