Dear future host family,
thank you for accepting me into your Family.
I am Marit from Germany. I would like to experience the world and learn something about different cultures, especially the American. I am really excited and looking forward to my exchange time with you.
By the time I do my exchange at your home, I have received my secondary school certificate.
I am a very active and open-minded girl who wants to try out new things and experience different lifestyles. In my free time I really enjoy playing handball. I have been doing that since I was 4 years old. Our team has a good spirit, and we are all friends.
In addition to that, I spent my free time doing a group for younger girls at my church, playing the ukulele or the trumpet. All of these activities happen in a group with many people who have all different interests, ages and characters. So, I would say that I can contribute effectively and deal well with many different people. In general, I like sports very much. I like to go jogging, do homework or try out new sports. I like to be outside and make memories with my friends!
I live with my mom, dad and my little brother together in our house in a little village. My brother is 12 years old and plays soccer. So, I often play with him in the garden. It makes a lot of fun with him! We have a really good relationship. Unfortunately, we do not have any pets, but I really like dogs. I could play with them the complete day. Except from dogs I am open to other pets as well. My grandparents live nearby. We are often together with them and do activities like eating together, picking strawberries or playing board games. I am attached to doing something with my family.
I am really excited to make memories with you while playing, cooking or eating together with you, if you are comfortable with that.
During the week I do not have that much free time because of school and my hobbies. Therefore, I do a lot of activities with my friends and family at the weekends. Especially in summertime I enjoy that very much.
My future goal is to see as much as possible from the world and travel a lot. I still do not know what I want to do as a profession after school. Save is, I want to gather a lot of memories and impressions around the world!
I want to visit your country to experience the American culture and way of life. I think you only live once, so money comes back, memories won’t. Especially I am really excited to see the high school with its different way than here in Germany. The Events such as Homecoming, Prom Night and specifically the team spirit in School Sports. I am enthusiastic about Thanksgiving and Halloween. I think it will be a different and interesting experience than here.
I would really like to join a sports team at my school. In Germany I tried to play tennis. I enjoyed that but I liked volleyball at school, too. I am curious about the sports which are offered at school. If something of this sport doesn’t fit, I am open to trying another one. In the USA I would like to do a sport. I think it’s a good way to find new friends and make close friendships. At your home I am open to doing something with you. I like to eat outside at a restaurant. My favorite food is burgers. I love them! And I like sweets very much. I love to eat them for dessert. By the way I don’t have any allergies. I could cook for myself but at my home here in Germany I didn’t do it that often. Most of the time we eat together as a family and often talk about our day.
My family and I are often on vacation. At the summer we are going to fly to Portugal. It’s been our summer vacation destination since I am a baby. My father’s parents built a house there. Last year we did a surfing course. That was so much fun. In winter we are going to ski in Austria. Most of the time we are travelling with friends. I have been skiing since I am six years old. I am not a pro, but I get down the slopes . I have already done some Ski breaks with my school.
Last Year I did an English class trip at a nearby area to London. I stayed with other pupils in a host family for one week. I was able to communicate well there. Sometimes I randomly used German words in an English sentence. That was funny. So, in the US I would like to improve my English skills. This summer I will go to Paris for one week with my school, because I learn French at school as well. But my French isn’t as good as my English.
I am very excited and looking forward to my exchange time and meeting you and your culture!
Thank you for hosting me!
Marit
