Dear American Family,
Hello, Zuweratu is my name. I am a student at a girls senior high school. I am a general art student. I am a very smart, brilliant, respectful, obedient and above all a hardworking student. I offer Geography, Government, Economics and Elective Mathematics as my elective subjects. Elective Mathematics among all these is my favorite subject.
I come from a family of seven of which I am the second child. I have an elder and a younger sister with two younger brothers. I have lived with my aunt and my cousin since I was eight. My parents live with my other four siblings and I visit them during vacations.
On Fridays, we normally do general cleaning of the house and its surrounding. It is normally fun to do it with the entire family. Everyone is assigned to a
particular chore. When cleaning, there is always music that is normally played for everyone to dance or sing along whiles doing the cleaning. After the
cleaning, during lunch time, everyone normally sits outside, in the yard where discussions normally take place. We sometimes just entertain ourselves and
then receive advice from our parents. They also tell us stories which have meaningful impact in our lives. Some of these stories are said in jovial ways to
make it enjoyable. This is done on Fridays because; they don't work on Friday but rather go to pray.
As the second child of my parents, I am always allowed to do the cooking and washing of my siblings' clothes. I am also allowed to look after them and the house whenever my parents are not around.
I like to read, and recite poems. I enjoy reading a good novel. I am always curious to read a story books with suspense because the suspense arouses your curiosity and edges you to read more. A poem recital especially to a crowd is exhilarating. I like to recite poems, especially lengthy ones which involve collaboration with another person, where we all have to master our lines and recite while the crowd cheers us on.
Debating is another thing I like to do. This is not because I like talking but because debating makes one to understand and appreciate other peoples’ perspective. Whether you win or lose a contest depends on how you are able to articulate your views for or against the motion, because in debate there is no right or wrong response. The part I like best is the rebuttals which give you an opportunity to point out the limitations of your opponents’ responses or when or on the other hand when they rebut to your defense. These rebuttal sessions strengthens your argument and at the same time widen your perspective.
Also, I have interest in drama activities. This interest motivated me to join the drama clubs in junior high school and senior high school, I like to take up lead character roles especially the ones which focuses on morality, obedience, discipline and hard work.
Being a friendly person, I have a lot of friends and I easily make new friends. I see everyone very important to be with. I love my friends very much. Although there are sometimes misunderstanding amongst my friends, we try to resolve it and make things work. My friends and I share ideas that will help or benefit all of us. We study together, play together and sometimes even cry together when one of us is in pain. We read story books together where everyone is entitled to a character. We sometimes talk about home when we are done studying. We discuss the activities that take place in our individual homes and all the new people we met and how we interacted with.
Furthermore, i will like you to know that i was born a Muslim but i am now a Christian. My parents and other four siblings are still Muslims. I became a Christian when I started staying with my aunt who is a Christian and following her to church, she didn't force me to become a Christian, but I did on my own. Though my father has no problem, my mum is still not in agreement of me being a Christian and says i should rethink my decision. Truth is, I enjoy everything in the Christian faith and want to remain in it. I have been baptized as a catholic. I don't have any regrets being a Christian because I enjoy it.
While on the this program I would like to learn more about the united states and how Americans do things, I would also to experience the famous American high school as we see it in the movies finally it would be great to share my own culture with an American family or society and to build long lasting bonds with the you.
sincerely
Zuweratu
