's Letter
Dear American Family,
(First-and-foremost,WoW, just thinking about potentially living abroad for a year is still sinking in.)
Hi, I am Nazih,a middle-child to a family of 5,my father, mother, older sister, and younger brother. My family holds a special place in my heart,I await the end of the school day purely just to go home and play with my little brother, but let's take it back a notch, who am I? Fun fact, my name means-"honest"-in Arabic,I was born on the 31st-of-October-2009,yep that's correct-I share my special day with Halloween. My childhood was typical, going out with family, playing with my siblings, studying, etc., but it all changed in elementary, when I discovered my love for technology.
It was calling me,I felt so close to tech; that I asked my parents to send me to a coding-camp,and the journey started. I flourishedextraordinarily, youngest in the batch, and my graduation-project was featured in the yearbook taught to students. I became more sure that this wasn't any hobby-it was a passion, and I needed to nurture it. A couple-of-weeks later-school started, and my parents encouraged me to apply to the school's robotics team-I didn't disappoint,I went straight to the HOD,laid out my portfolio of skills-it went perfectly, and I was set to compete in my first robotics competition,it was the start of my career. I continued working with the team until 7th grade, where my age no longer fit the "Junior" division,I was nervous something might happen that wouldn't allow me to be on the "Seniors" team, but when I received that call that I made the team,I was ecstatic. The first training felt weird, being the only 7th grader with a bunch of 9th graders was something new,but I demonstrated great teamwork-and-skill,and waseventually "Team Leader",something I didn't expect. Fast forward one year,to our first ever win in a competition along with a qualification to the-Internationals. Then, our coach assigned me a co-coach to a team of 6th graders-one of the most exciting, yet, anxious points I was in,the responsibility was significant, but I was determined to lead them to a win, and thankfully, we won 1st Place in both national-and international competitions, and I gained many skills. I am writing this letter one-day after we won another competition securing 1st-and-3rd places. Robotics has become a core part of me, and I can't live without it,staying at school until 12:00AM, working with my teammates, some of my best friends, are memories I'll carry for life.
Enough about me, let's talk U.S.A,oh where do I start, the culture-the people-the food-the landmarks-it doesn't end. I can assert that visiting the U.S. is on the bucket list of every child, but living there for a year, that's the dream,I would most definitely love to spread the Jordanian culture too, especially our food, which I plan on cooking, and our dances, "Chobi" as we call it, is one of the best dances I've learned to do with my friends, gives me so much adrenaline that I play at-least it twice a day.
I plan on becoming a pilot, which I know doesn't align with my tech interests, but it's purely out of ardour,I once heard a saying "Work what you'd work without pay.", it sank in really good when I thought about piloting.
Finally,Jordan is something I adore, walking the streets at night, staring at the landscapes of the sunrise,I plan on spending my life here, but exchange is always good, which is part of why I applied to YES.
I'd like to end this letter with a heartfelt thank-you,to each one of you reading this,it must be a thorough decision to open your homes and hearts to strangers, we won't let you down, you're going to become our second family really fast, and we greatly
appreciate this opportunity.
Warm regards from the other side of the world,
Nazih (or ZeZo-my nickname)
