's Letter
Dear future host family,
First of all I would like to say a huge thank you! I’m truly grateful for the chance to live with you and to become a part of your family. I’ve been dreaming about this exchange year since I was eleven, and now I can finally experience all of this with you together!
I don’t know anything about you yet, but I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Adria, but my friends often call me Ali. I’m from Germany, near the capital. I live with my parents, Bettina and Tino, and my younger brother Neo. I have a very good relationship with my parents especially with my mom because I can talk with her about everything. My brother and I get along well too, because we kinda share the same interests. We go inline skating together almost every evening in summer. I also have two adorable rabbits which I really love.
I would descripe myself as a loving and caring person who tries to live her life the way she wants. I’m an ambitious, honest and funny girl. I would say I am an ambivert person and I really want to be more active and talkative. Sometimes I can be a bit shy in new situations and worry too much about what others think of me. But once I feel comfortable, I open up and show my true self. I’m trying to become more confident and not let others opinions affect me too much. That’s something I want to work on while my exchange year. My friends are very important to me and I love spending time with them. My closest friends say that I’m open minded, loyal, friendly, funny, stubborn, smart, and reliable. I think that matches pretty well. My hobbies are inline skating, but in the winter I rather go ice skating. I absolutely love festivals, theme parks, and water parks it’s like my favorite thing ever and I always get a bit overexcited. I also went waterskiing one time and it was so much fun, I loved the energy. I’m interested in cheerleading, different cultures, healthy eating and fashion.
For my future career I want to be an actress and travel the world. I love traveling and I really want to see more of the world than just Europe. I also love listening to music, baking, shopping, picnicking, or going out with friends. School in Germany is not like high school in the USA. I noticed that the school community is very strong in American high schools, and I wish it was like that at my school too. We have a very weak community here, sadly. My favorite subject is English and my favorite colors are gold and white.
The main reasons why I want to do an exchange year in the USA are that I want to get to know American culture and I don’t want to miss the exciting experience of living in a different country far away from home. I’m doing this exchange year to experience the high school spirit and to make new friends for life. Also to try new things I’ve never done before starting with the flight, because I’ve never been on a plane before. And I want to improve my English skills, I just noticed they could be better while writing this letter to you. I hope to get out of my comfort zone during the exchange year and to experience lots of new things with you. I’m so excited to finally meet you soon, and I’m very thankful for this opportunity!
Sincerely, Adria
