's Letter
Dear American Family,
My name is Danis and I am excited to become a part of your family with the YES exchange program. I am a 16-year-old student from Bosnia and Herzegovina. I live with my parents and twin sister in an appartment where we enjoy spending time together. My parents and I have a close bond, and we love activities like cooking meals, watching movies, or going on weekend to our house in the mountains for some fresh air.
At home, I have many responsibilities such as helping with chores like doing the laundry or cleaning the dishes, and sometimes assisting with cooking. Smaller tasks like setting up the table or helping with groceries is something I do all the time. Sometimes I need to vacuum the appartment or mop the floors. My parents encourage independence, which has taught me how to manage my time effectively between schoolwork and family duties.
I have a passion for sports, especially soccer, and I'm currently part of a soccer team, which has been an exciting way for me to challenge and imporve myself. I practicaly enjoy watching almost any sport but I am not so good at playing them. I am also very
creative and play the guitar occasionally. Geography and physical education are my favorite subjects at school as I've always enjoyed learning about different countries and cultures, which is one of the reasons I'm so excited about this exchange program. I have been to 23 countries in my life and The US is currently on top of my list of countries I would like to visit.
I have some wonderful friends with who I hang out whenever possible. Most of them are from my school and I usually talk with them during school breaks but we often go out on the weekends. We enoy playing sports together or going for a walk. My friends
have been my inspiration and support and being around them always brings out the best in me.
My hometown is a medium-sized city known for its salt lakes and friendly community. Although the pace of life here is relaxed, it has a very lively atmosphere especially during the summer. Because of its relatively smaller population (100.000 people), everbody knows eachother and that is one of my favorite things about the city. There is always something you can do, from relaxing in the lakes during hot temperatures, or playing popular sports, to visiting local caffes and eating out in a restaurant.
As for my future, I am mostly likely going to continue with IT because I like working with numbers. I would like to work in a multinational company to combine my skills in IT and my love for travelling and exploring. I hope this exchange experience will
help me develop skills that will contribute to my career plans.
I would like you to know that I am easily adaptable to your lifestyle and I am really excited to become a part of your family and learn from you. I have learned to always make the best out of any given situation. I'm open to trying new things and sharing my culture with you, whether it's telling you about Bosnian traditions or cooking a dish from my country.
Through this exchange, I hope to experience American culture and build lasting relationships. I want to become a more independent and open-minded person. Above all, I want to create memories that will stay with me forever.
Thank you for welcoming me into your home and giving me the chance to embark on this incredible journey.
Warm regards,
Danis
