Dear future host family,
First of all I thank you for your attention. I imagine that you are considering the possibility of hosting a foreign student in your home and I suppose you would like to know a bit more about me before making a decision,
My name is Gabriela and I live in Spain. I am 15 years old. I define myself as a sociable and funny person: I make my friends laugh and I like it when they make me laugh. I love playing sports: I currently play volleyball and I'm in a local team playing as a libero (a player with defensive roles).
At home there are four of us: I live with my parents (Santiago and Leticia) and I have a little brother, David, who is 12 years old.
My best friend is called Blanca and she’s a really nice person. I know her since we started secondary school.
I would love to live this experience in the USA because I love learning about different cultures, meeting new people and travelling around the world. I would also like to improve my English and the USA is the ideal place.
I would like to study in the USA because their educational system is prestigious and this experience offers the possibility of an interesting and beneficial cultural exchange.
Ever since I saw Disney movies like High School Musical I imagined myself living the American dream: at that moment it all started as a dream but during these years I have been seriously considering the possibility of studying in the USA to get to know a High School, to grow as a person, to try new and different things and to have a second family - on the other side of the world - for the rest of my life.
My daily life is simple: I get up at 7.30 a.m. and get ready for school, have breakfast and at 8.00 a.m. I walk to school. At 8.30am I start school and finish at 4.30pm. After school, on Mondays and Wednesdays I go to training, on Tuesdays and Thursdays I go to English classes to improve my English. On Saturdays I always have a volleyball match. That's why I usually get up at 9am, so I have time to have breakfast and clean my room first. When I come home, I take a shower, do the homework the teacher has left me for the weekend or study for the next exams. In the evenings I go out with friends or my family: we usually go to the shopping centre, to the cinema to watch a film or to the city centre. On Sundays I sleep a bit more and I usually eat paella together with my grandparents. In the afternoon I still do my homework.
My favourite subjects are Economics and French, but I also like Literature and P.E ; this are the subjects I usually stand out or have higher grades.
My favorite foods are sushi or italian food. I also love fruit, especially strawberries, and salads or vegetables. I’m allergic to pistachios and cashews.
My family and I usually spend our holidays together and travel to different places every year.
My hobbies are going out with my school and team friends, going to the theatre or cinema, shopping with my mum or my friends, watching soccer matches with my brother and enjoying the concerts of my favourite artists when I have the chance.
I like almost all types of music; pop, R&B, latin, etc.
I love the beach, the surf, the sea, the summer and the good weather but I also love skiing and ice skating. I am good at it. I really enjoy my time at school because I have very nice classmates with whom we are very close and we get along very well.
I hope this information has been useful to you in making a decision. For my part, I will do everything possible to integrate into your family routine and turn this experience into something unforgettable for everyone.
I thank you for your attention and I hope to see you very soon
Best regards,
Gabriela
