Dear Host Family,
First things first, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of your family and show me the culture in the US for the year during my exchange program.
I am Devin, a student from Germany. My personal goals are improving and developing my personality and getting to know you and the American culture surely will be a great way to achieve these goals. Therefore, I am pretty excited to meet you.
Sports always were a huge part of my life. Especially Judo shaped my life since I have been 5. Currently, I am focusing competing on tournaments and teaching children from the ages 7 to 12 at my local club, which also gave me the opportunity to get a trainer license. Meanwhile I am staying fit.
Being active is pretty important in my opinion, because I grew up fighting, swimming, hiking, skiing and running. I really hope I will be able to keep some of these up in the US.
Cooking has been a part in my life for quite some time now, so maybe I could learn a few new recipience or show off some of mine.
Other interests of mine are mostly about science. I would love to have a nice chat about physics, math, biology and more. Theologies are not my topic, but learning about the politics in the US would be great.
My family situation is quite complicated, but I will try to break it down. I was 7 when my parents separated, so I am only familiar with a rather unconventional style of life. Every one to two weeks, I move to my mom or my dad. This might sound more problematic that it actually is, since my parents still live in the same town. I also have a 20-year-old brother, but sadly we are not very close to each other, because of the big age gab.
Even though I have some friends who are not very close, my close friends are about 3 or 4 people. Most important for me is Theo, who I met years ago while training. Other than that, I have a good amount of contact, through friends, parents and my Judo club.
I could imagine working in the areas of psychology or computer science in the future. No matter what, I would like to work with people all over the world, therefore the exchange program will be a great step towards my future.
Warm Regards,
Devin
