's Letter

Dear Host Family, Thank you so much for being willing to participate in the exchange program and accepting me to live with your family. My name is Ariadna, I am 15 years old, so, I have almost finished high school. I am from Catalonia, Spain. I have light brown hair, I’m thin, not very tall and I have honey brown eyes. I am sensitive, fun, creative, friendly, and also I consider myself responsible. I love try new things, and I'm very excited to learn about the American culture and share in your life. There are 4 of us in my family. My father, David, is tall, brown hair and they say I look a lot like him. It's super fun and I have a great time with it. My mother, Lola, is short, dark, is an outgoing person and I love the way she cooks. They got divorced when I was 4 years old, but they have a very good relationship. I also have a sister a year older than me, her name is Íngrid. I get along very well with her, we talk, we play and we have a lot of trust. I have never been without my family for more than 10 days and I am going to miss them, both them and the rest of my family, especially my grandparents. It is going to be very difficult for me to make this exchange but the desire to do it overcomes it. My friends are very sad that I am leaving because they will not see me for almost a year, but they are also happy that I am doing one of my dreams, to go on exchange to the United States for a year and learning my favorite language, English. With my friends I have a lot of love for them and a lot of trust. I have known one of them since I was 1 year old, the others I have been with for 4 years and I will miss them very much. My high school is quite large, but if I compare it with a high school in the United States it is very small since high schools in Spain and the United States are very different. Like for example classes or for example where you eat lunch, which does not exist in Spain. My favorite subjects are physical education, because I love sports. I also like English, because it is my favorite language and I like Catalan because it is my mother tongue, although I also like other subjects. As a hobby I play the piano, I have been studying at a music school for 5 years and I also sing in a choir although I am not very good at it. From time to time I read or cook or play games to entertain myself. I enjoy playing sports, such as volleyball, tennis, ice skating, soccer, but my favorite is skiing, that's why it's a tradition in my family to go skiing every year. I also really like going out with friends, playing board games with my family and listening to music. Traveling is also something I like but I haven't done it much. But really I like to do everything. My favorite food is my grandmother's, I love the way she cooks. But if I have to choose, I love pasta, sushi and Spanish food. The croquettes, the paella, the Iberian ham, the potato omelette with onion... I would like to cook you Spanish food one day. I'm going to miss these meals in my year there, but I'm looking forward to trying your typical food. I really want to start my exchange year, especially to learn English, but also to learn your culture, try your food, see what the people are like, my new friends in America, the shops, the restaurants, the highschool there, and above all. I can also take amazing photos, get to know you and have a great time and make it an unforgettable experience. I’m excited to become a part of your family! Warm Regards, Ari
