Dear host family, My name is Diego and I am almost 16 years old. I am very motivated with the opportunity of going to USA. One of my friends recommended me this experience and I got convinced little by little. So, it is my own decision and I firmly believe it will be really worthy. In order to introduce myself, I would say to you that I am an organized, sociable and responsible person. I always attend first my duties and then my hobbies. Also, a lot of people often say to me that I am careful, grateful and hard-working. I think that it is true, mainly being hard-working because I put a lot of effort on a lot of things, such as studying. Moreover, I think that I will get along with you because I am a sociable and easy-going boy. Talking about my hobbies, my principal one is soccer. I like playing it at every moment. In fact, I play on a soccer team of my town and we train three days a week. On the weekend, we play an official match of the championship. Also, I like watching soccer on TV and playing soccer videogames. My other principal hobbie is playing piano. I started to play it last year but I am really keen on it and I enjoy it a lot. Referring to my family, I live with my father and my brother. Unfortunately, my mum passed away two years ago. My father is 47 years old and he is an aeronautical engineer. My brother is 14 years old. We have a very good relationship. We like travelling together, playing soccer, staying at home to watch a film, playing games and also videogames. My father helps both me and my brother in everything we need. Regarding my rutines here in Spain, when I come back home from high school on a regular weekday, what I usually first do is my homework. Then, in the afternoon, I take piano classes, English classes or I train soccer, depending on the day. After these activities, I normally study for exams and I sometimes read a book. On the weekend, first of all, I attend my duties, such as studying and helping my father with the housework. Later, on my free time, I do different things, such as meeting up with my friends, playing videogames, practicing my piano lessons or playing soccer. Additionally, I think that I could contribute to your routines. I will be one more in the family and I could help you, for example, with the housework. Also, I could talk you about Spain, our traditions, tipical festivities and food. Speaking about the high school and the community there, in USA, I might help my classmates on class whatever they need. Of course, I am entirely convinced that I will make new friends there and we will be able to meet up all together and enjoy. Furthermore, I could talk them about Spanish culture too. Finally, why have I chosen to go one year to USA? Firstly, this resolution will develop into an unforgottable experience. I will make new friends and learn a new culture. After this experience, I will be more mature and I will improve my English level a lot. This decision will be very important for my future, specially to find a job and to study an university degree. Secondly, I have chosen USA because I think it is a very interesting country due to its culture, the relevance that it gives to sports, the high school atmosphere and how people celebrate traditions and public holidays. Thus, this is what I can shortly write you about me. I hope I could tell you more in person. But, I can´t finish this letter without giving you thanks for your generosity and hospitality. I really admire your initiative to host foreign students and intruduce them to the American culture. Of course, if I have the chance, I would like to show you a bit of my Spanish culture.
