Dear Host Family, first of all I want to thank you wholehartedly for picking me as the exchange student you wanted to live with for the next six months and accepting me being a part of your family, even if it is for a short period of time. I was born in Istanbul, Turkey. Five years ago I moved with my mom to Germany to have better opportunities in education, sports and to have a better life. My father coulnd't come with us because of his work there. One of these better opportunities in education I got was the chance to make an exchange for 6 months to the USA. I want to do this exchange because of a couple of reasons. Some of which are getting to know new cultures, perfecting the English language and basketball. The american culture is very unique because it's a melting pot of everything. I really like the music, whether if it's Kendrick Lamar, 21 Savage and Metro Boomin or Taylor Swift and Drake. The reason I wrote basketball is that I am talented in it and I really would love to compare myself and play against the best of the best and get better. I have a very social, eloquent, fun, easygoing, emotinal, emphatic, conscientious, open minded, ambitious, responsible and impulsive personality. I am very sportive and love doing various sports like swimming, playing basketball, diving and playing tennis. At the moment I am speaking 3 languages fluently (English, Turkish, German), one good enough to communiucate (French) and two dead languages (Latin and ancient Greek). In the US I would love to add Spanish to this list. My life here in Germany is nearly everyday pretty much the same: going to school, training with the weights and having basketball training. I frequently, almost every weekend, meet up with friends and go to the movies or go to a bigger city to walk around, eat and shop or just do some spontaneous fun activity like swimming or buying ice-cream. I'm also playing the piano. I played 6 years long but had to pause it because of corona. I am picking it up again now and I also am my own teacher. I know everything about it there is to know so I just need some music sheets. My mom and I have an excellent relationship. She works as a psychologist in an elementary school. My dad is also always in close contact with us and is frequently coming to visit us. At school I have a lot of friends and get along excellent with every teacher. I trust my teachers and I consult them about everything, I just have to ask. They were the ones to suggest an exhange year to me. For my future life and education I have a lot of plans. Academically I plan to have an excellent "Abitur" (high school graduation diploma) and studying medicine, marine biology or the teaching profession. My personal goals are playing basketball professionally in at least the Bundesliga. I am already looking forward to the life in the US and the great memories. Best regards, Berk
