Marta
's Letter
Dear host family:
I hope you had a great day! My name is Marta, I'm from Spain. I'd like to introduce myself and share some details about who I am. We're five at home: My parents, both my brothers and me. We don't have any pets even though I would love to!
I love figure skating, not on ice (which I would also love to try), but the kind of skating in which the wheels hit the ground. I've been doing it for 10 years, and among all the sports I've tried, it has been the only one that I have ever really liked. It has made me feel like my real self, although I would love to try other sports! I practise it twice a week for one hour each day.
In addition to my love for figure skating, playing the piano makes me very happy. I have always felt a great connection with music and I have played other instruments, but without a doubt, the piano is the one that I like the most. It makes me feel free to express myself through melodies, and I think there are few more satisfying things than transmitting emotions to others by playing your instrument. I like almost every kind of music, but my favourite artists are Harry Styles, David Bowie, Eminem... And I'm also really into listening to movie soundtracks!
Aside from these artistic activities, I have another adventure waiting for me in the kitchen. I have always been very curious and I really enjoy myself while experimenting with flavors and the chemistry behind cooking. I would really like to share this with you and be able to make you travel with me through food. I would say my favourite food are dumplings and the one that I hate the most is cheese!
I'm really excited to finally be able to fulfill this dream. American culture has always caught my attention, and for about 7 years, being able to study in the USA has been one of my biggest goals. I am really excited to have the opportunity to live there for a year and integrate as one more. I would love to learn everything I can about you and your way of life. Likewise, I am delighted to have the opportunity to share aspects of Spanish culture with you, my future host family. From traditions to flavors, I am ready to bring a little piece of Spain to your household as long as you agree! It is a cultural exchange, a two-way street where learning and sharing go hand in hand.
Every day I am closer to traveling to the United States and meeting you, and the truth is that I feel many things: enthusiasm, curiosity and a touch of nervousness. However, it is this mix that makes this journey so exciting for me. I'm not here just to witness; I am here to actively participate, to create memories and experiences that will last for a lifetime!
I can't wait to meet you!
Best regards,
Marta.
