Dear Host Family,
My name is Asier I am studying 11th grade. I am doing pretty well with my studies since I enjoy going to school. I live with my family and my 2 brothers, Samuel who is 18 and Pablo who is 7.
I wake up around 6:30 AM to go to school and then after school I go home for lunch, sometimes to my grandparents' house which is very close to my school and I have lunch with them sometimes because I like to be with them and listen to the stories they tell me. After having lunch I do my homework and 3 days a week I go to train basketball, I love this sport and I have been practicing it for 4 years.
This year, on Fridays, I decided to be volunteer with a program at my school, and I go with some friends to prepare food and deliver it to the homeless people and talk a little with some of them. We are always accompanied by the people from the organization. For dinner I sometimes help my mother to cook, what I like the most is making desserts.
During the weekends I have a basketball game day and I like to go out with my friends, go to the cinema, ride my bike and when my mother is not working we like to go to my grandparents' village to spend the weekend with my uncle and aunt too. Some Saturdays, after lunch we like to watch a film together at home. Since my mother works for an airline, some weekends we take a plane to spend the weekend in another city, although we often go by car.
I have several groups of friends, I have my friends from the village, that I usually spend the summer and part of Christmas with them too, I have my basketball friends´ team and then I have my friends from school, that I go out on weekends in the afternoon. I have a very good relationship with them because they say that I am very fun and I think that I am a good friend always trying to be positive in a bad situation, you have to find the solution.
Last year my older brother went to study in the United States in 12th grade and we had a student from the United States who was going to university here in my city in my brother's room. That was very different since my brother was not here, but we soon had a very good relationship teaching him how to get around the city and learn Spanish. He was older than me and it was a great experience for me, so I can understand what it is like to have a new person in your house. I decided to choose the United States because I like everything I know and all the people I met were very nice. Since my older brother came back from the United States and told me that he had one of the best experiences of his life, I am very excited to go. Also my mother, 30 years ago, has been in this program and also had a great experience and still keeps in touch with her family. I know that our cultures are different, but I want to learn more and I think that spending 10 months with a family is the best way of immersion that I can have. I would like to be part of your family and help and participate in everything you want, I will do my best to try to enjoy this experience together.
Finally, I want to thank you in advance for opening the doors of your home and giving me the opportunity to be part of your family. I am sure that together we will have wonderful experiences and learn a lot from each other. Your hospitality is a gesture that I greatly value, and I look forward to meeting you and sharing this incredible adventure.
Asier
