Download Japan Cultural Exploration Application
Spend the summer in Tokyo! Discover the unique blend of old and new, traditional and modern of present day Japan. Visit the museum dedicated to your favorite Anime or Manga, see the Buddhist temples of Kamakura, and take Japanese classes.
The AYUSA Japanese Cultural Exploration program in Tokyo is ideal for students who want to learn or improve their Japanese while exploring the Tokyo area. The program includes four weeks of Japanese language courses and dorm accommodation, along with afternoon and weekend cultural activities.
Location
The National Olympic Memorial Youth Center (NOMYC) is a peaceful oasis in the heart of Tokyo. All classes will take place within this self-contained campus environment.
Housing
Students will stay in dormitories at the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center (NOMYC) in double occupancy rooms with a shared bathroom. The modern campus facilities include a cafeteria, gym, swimming pool, music studio and tennis courts. An AYUSA on-site coordinator will live in the dormitories with the students and supervise activities. There is an additional fee to use the tennis courts or pool.
The Program
Japanese classes take place each morning, Monday-Friday, for a total of 15 hours of language instruction per week. To ensure quality instruction, courses are taught by fully qualified language instructors, and a 17:1 maximum student-to-teacher ratio is maintained.

Experience Japanese culture in a way that a typical tourist can not! During this four-week program you will live with a host family and attend a local Japanese high school. By living with a host family, you will experience the Japanese way of life first hand, while practicing your conversational Japanese with native speakers.
Location and Program Highlights
AYUSA participants who choose to visit and study in Japan are placed with carefully selected host families throughout the country. Each student will have an arrival orientation. Destinations in the past have included Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Tochigi, Shizuoka, Gifu, Osaka and Okinawa areas! Six months of Japanese language study is required, as all classes will be in Japanese. Exchange students are rare in Japanese high schools, and they are treated that way by other students. Therefore, students are expected to behave well and act like an ambassador in their host school and community. Be prepared to experience some cultural differences in family life.
A visa is not required for the summer.
