Acceptance Process

Once AYUSA Study Abroad has received your completed application, the application review and acceptance process begins. The process has two main parts - an interview and acceptance into the selected program. Accepted student applications are also reviewed by our overseas partners. Students applying to our summer programs are not interviewed unless otherwise advised.

Interview for High School Study Abroad

Within two weeks of receiving your completed application, a program manager will contact you to arrange a phone interview, at least one parent or guardian will also need to be part of the interview step. It will take approximately 90 minutes to complete the interview. During the interview, AYUSA will discuss your program and your interest in studying abroad. The interview is a great time to:
  • Ask any questions you might have about your summer, academic year, semester or trimester program, including credit transfer.
  • Begin thinking about how your exchange experience will affect you, your friends and your family.
  • The interview will enable us to gain a better understanding of your personality, expectations and goals for your Study Abroad program. Your exchange program experience and learning begins from the time you begin your application. All qualified students will be invited to take part in the "Global Student" online study abroad course.

AYUSA Acceptance for High School Study Abroad

After your phone interview, your application will be reviewed at our San Francisco Headquarters, and we will determine if you will receive acceptance into your selected program. Typically you are notified of AYUSA acceptance one to two weeks after your phone interview.

After receiving acceptance by AYUSA, your completed application will be sent to our overseas partners for review. Our partners reserve the right to make a final decision on acceptance for each student. It is extremely rare for a student to receive AYUSA acceptance and not be accepted by our overseas partners.

AYUSA will notify you in writing of your acceptance into our program. At that time we will also provide you with access to the student section of our website where you will find helpful pre-departure, in-country and post-program information.

If for any reason you are not accepted into the Study Abroad program your enrollment deposit will be fully refunded, less a $150 application processing fee. If you have worked closely with one of our program advisors during your application process it is rare that an applicant will not accepted into their program of choice. Please familiarize yourself with our payment and cancellation policies.
