Students who choose an academic year or semester program in Mexico will live with a host family and attend a local high school

Learn

Full immersion into the Mexican language provides invaluable experience and knowledge about Mexican culture, customs, and traditions. Academic year and semester students attend a local Mexican high school late August through early July, while staying with a host family in the Yucatan Peninsula, in southern Mexico. Ayusa programs enhance your education by making a high school study abroad program in Mexico a reality.  Classroom teaching is conducted entirely in Spanish with a variety of courses including: Math, Biology, History, Spanish language and literature, Physical Education, Art, Music, French, and Italian.  Most Mexican public school hours are typically 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students remain in one classroom as teachers rotate, giving you the opportunity to become close with your classmates.

One year of Spanish is required, though more is encouraged to quicken the adjustment to your host family and school life.
Why learn Spanish?  Spanish is spoken by over 320 million people worldwide!

Experience

Rich in tradition and history, sprinkled with pristine beaches, and noted for its delicious, unique cuisine, the Yucatan Peninsula has long been a sought after location to explore and experience.  Ancient Mayan ruins will be your playground as you discover Mexico’s vibrancy.  Family is central in Mexican society and you should anticipate in partaking in your host family’s cultural practices, especially food, music, and dance, all important aspects of Mexican society.
