In November of 2009, 15 of Ayusa’s top staff members traveled to Mexico as the guests of our partner, IVESA. Over the course of a week, our staff explored the rich Mayan culture and beauty of Mexico in towns and beaches across the Yucatan Peninsula.
Highlights included a visit to the center of Mayan Indian culture, Chichen Itza, the colonial charm of Merida, and well-deserved relaxation at Playa del Carmen.
Ayusa staff were also matched with local Mexican host families in Campeche, where they got a glimpse of what their exchange students experience. They also were able to visit a local high school and speak to Mexican teens who were eager to practice their English.
This year’s OPE trip was a memorable experience for all who participated. One of our Regional Directors, Rachael Blaske, summed it up well:
"My favorite phrase and an attitude I will encourage my exchange students to embrace was 'Quisiera probar todos!' which roughly translates to 'I want to try it all!'”
