Star Student of the Month, Doan

All exchange students in the US run into challenges and problems at one point during their year.

Doan, a student from Slovakia, who is very passionate about running, joined track in his first few weeks here. In a race, he took off and while trying to beat his competitor, ran into a bench that had been left in the track. He was taken in for surgery right away and has been in a walking cast for the first month of his stay as an exchange student.

Both his Regional Director and Host Family cannot believe how incredibly positive he has been, despite the discomfort of having a cast. Doan’s great attitude, flexibility and enthusiasm is noticed by all.

At his student orientation, no matter what the task, Doan was there to volunteer to help.  He was one of the greatest students to make sure that everyone felt at home and greeted.

In spite of his accident and surgery and recovery, Doan cannot do what he would like to have done, SO he has turned all of his energy into encouraging others and making everyone feel welcome.
