English Tutoring Program Rules and Guidelines 2011-2012

Although you may have been studying English for a number of years, you may find yourself overwhelmed in your new English-only speaking environments. It is normal to struggle with English at the beginning of your program, whether it is with speaking, listening or reading comprehension skills. But, you can improve dramatically with the help of a dedicated tutor. The step-by-step page will guide you and your tutor through the process of starting tutoring sessions and receiving payment each month.

Step 1: Before tutoring can begin

  • Your Ayusa Regional Manager will confirm that tutoring is needed and approved.
  • Tutors will need to submit a Background Check Form to Ayusa.
  • Tutors will also complete the Independent Contractor Letter of Agreement. In this document, tutors and students will need to agree on the hourly rate.
  • Tutors will need to complete the W-9 form necessary for payment.

Step 2: During tutoring

Step 3: To receive payment

  • On the 30th of each month, the Tutoring Log and Assessment Report must be faxed to Ayusa Headquarters office for processing and payment. Fax: 415-434-5470

Things to keep in mind:

  • Hourly rate is decided between the student and tutor and cannot exceed $25/hr.
  • Students may not receive more than 25 hours of tutoring in one month without prior approval.
  • Tutoring sessions may not exceed 6 hours in one week.
  • While Ayusa pays the tutor directly, all charges are forwarded onto the student's natural family and it is their sole responsibility to cover all tutoring expenses.
  • Communication is important—the duration and frequency of tutoring sessions should be agreed to by student and tutor.
  • For a full checklist, including fax transmittal sheet, please refer to the Tutoring Checklist.
